I think that it rocks in terms of character modelling. Check this out, it's the unsmoothed version, just me playing around...

Very nice! and the most I've been able to do in Wings so far is an 5-poly prism for my time machine LOL

thats awesome!! wings has become my favorite modeler(mostly cuz it was free!)

mikeberg ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 8:35 AM

And what do you think about Anim8or ? I'm working with it for 3 weeks and I love that freeware. Did someone tried it ? What is the difference between Wings 3D and Anim8or ? Thank you

Well They both very good freeware programs. I use both. The newest version of anim8or has some very neat tools that wings doesn't have and Wings 3d vice a versa. Heres a render I did in Anim8or of a skunks head. Did the hair with the bump tool .

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 10:12 AM

pretty nice :)

Andini ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 10:20 AM

I use both, too. I started out with Anim8or but then I found WINGS. I think I like the Wings3D interface a little more than Anim8or but there are still some things that I am more comfortable doing in Anim8or. I like to jump around between the two programs.

Andini ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 10:25 AM

Here are some of the things I've done in the programs:

WINGS- Burger Cooking Machine

Anim8or- Cool Blue Guy

Another Blue Guy

That makes two of us Bryster. Didn't know about the multiple smoothing passes either.

Here's a catfishy thing I did when I was bored one day, I always thought it looked funny, lol.

pakled ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 1:26 PM

that makes 3 of us..'course my problem is that I tend to try to get the unsmoothed version to look good, and a smoothing pass makes my model look like the Wicked Witch after Dorothy gave her the wet-Tshirt treatment..;) good ta know..;) ran into Wings too soon after I got anim8tor, so I 'should' get back to it someday..;)

I had to play around in Wings today after reading the thread...here's what I came up with. Modeling in Wings, texturing in Bryce.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 7:26 PM

Crazy stuff! I tried Wings3D for about an hour, and couldn't make a goddam thing. Ended up going with Rhinoceros, so I can make jewelry out of my objects, but it's good to see people going nuts with Wings! Cool catfish, Sparr, really cool!

quick tip..when you go to the Wings site, get the 'manual' from the Discussion area (there's a Manual project), pdf file, and a coupla tutorials..then stop by and check out the Wings tutorials..Draculaz made a good spaceship tutorial (now you know why there's so many floatin' around here), which you can use to get different tools to work. Taught me lots..I've only been using it since..oh..uh..May?..seems longer..why this hasn't been bumped to the Wings forum is beyond me..ya think they know it's there?..;)
