Subject: Layers with transparancies

I am trying to figure out what file formats preserve transparancies beyond a photoshop file. This is for use in photoshop type applications so eps files are out. Thanks for any help.

Hi Ghostofmacbeth. GIF files preserve transparent areas in a graphic (I'm pretty sure they do anyway...) If you want to preserve Alpha channels then TIFF are the go there...I'm not sure what else...(not much help am I?...lol) I will move this thread to the photoshop forum, I'm sure the experts there will have more answers! :-)>

I understand Photoshop pdf preserves the information and can even preserve the mix between pixel and vector information. Most 'photoshop type' applications will accept .psd files probably. The transparancy of a gif file is rather harsh, there is no blend. Alpha channel transparancy can be gradual, so much better. The way to go, in low resolution (72 dpi or 96 dpi for on-screen use), is of course .png. Most current versions of web browser accept it too. If your ps-type app reads it.
