is it possible to completely remove ones username, gallery, homepage, profile from the site as if had never been here in the first place or if leaving can one only delete images and empty homepage ?

Interesting question...I'd like to know what was left here myself, if one chooses to leave....

At the moment, if a member wishes to leave the account is disabled. We can empty a member's gallery and homepage if requested, but the account stays in the database. (I don't understand the full reasons why, it's technical and something to do with the database but it's the same reason why we can't offer a change of member name.) It does have an upside though. If a member leaves and then decides to come back at some future time, it's just like they never left. Kev.

Speaking from a database (DB) administrator perspective: R'osity most likely has the DB set to allow only unique usernames (which makes sense) and if they removed the entire account, one of two things could happen. Either:

  1. A new Member could use the same username, causing confusion between the two (or more) users that used the name; or
  2. The username would be disabled, requiring the Member to come in with a new username causing similar confusion.

In this instance, it makes perfect sense not to remove the account. Besides, how could R'osity count the inactive Members for marketing purposes if the DB was purged? ;0)

They could, however, allow a Member who is leaving to check a box that would run an automagic script to remove the gallery, homepage, free stuff, etc. The problem being if someone leaves in a tiff one day - not that tiffs ever happen :0), removes all their stuff, and returns the next day, then they would have to start from scratch; all the while complaining about the inconvenience - not that complaints ever happen. :0)

So, for once, I actually agree with R'osity's decision.

QUICK! Mark the calendar and make it an International Holiday! :0)

Thanks for the replies and info, all. I'm not in a tiff or a huff, just wanted to know ; )

"So, for once, I actually agree with R'osity's decision." thunk (sound of 'Rosity staff collective jaws hitting the deck) runs away quickly ;)
