Well I finally decided to jump into this month's challenge. I had planned to join last month but chickened out. I would appreciate any C&C you might care to share. I have followed all the rules; Bryce sun only, treelab tree. The only post- work was adding my name and a waterfall in the distance. Thank you for your comments.

danamo ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 5:33 AM

I guess I posted the non-waterfall version,ooops!

This looks great Danamo. I like the leaves floating on the water--nice touch!

pidjy ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 6:21 AM

Have you been in Canada lately?.. well it looks like that!;; the ripple in the middle of the lake is a nice touch!.. the only thing I would say is that the rocks don't look as realistic as the rest of the scene. keep up the goooooooood work! cheers

Ornlu ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 6:24 AM

i'd say if the rocks were a tad less ambient then it'd look a lot better. And I agree with pidjy it does look like canada, reminds me of alma up near nova scotia.

Rayraz ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 6:36 AM

looks very, very nice. I like the mountain a lot and the trees are great too I think you should put the texture of the terrain near the camera on the terrain with the colorfull trees too. or maybe a tweaked version of it.

Pidjy, I haven't seen canada for real ever. I do have some idea what it should look like though. I've seen some photo's, although not very recently. I have seen a high res photo of the most beautifull canadian on the planet today though. And yesterday too. And I have to agree with you. I thought of canada too when I saw this image :)

Wow! This is really captivating. I love looking at all the different things in it. Can't wait to see it with the waterfall. That mountain looks really awesome. And the way you've placed the trees is wonderful. With just a few tweaks this will look like a photo! :-D

croowe ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 8:04 AM

Being a Canadian I would have to agree with you all, this looks like a scene you would see probably in western Canada in or near the Rockies. Great render. Ornlu-Alma is actually in New Brunswick right next to Fundy National Park(home to the highest tides in the world)but you are right it is near Nova Scotia. And thats the end of the Geography lesson for today kiddies :)

ttops ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 8:08 AM

Very nice render, love that mountain in the distance.

Ornlu ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 9:13 AM

Yeah, I had a brain melt and couldn't remember New Brunswick, I stay in fundy national park quite often, some amazing views. We usually stop there on the way to novascotia or PEI. Still a nice town, has a really great bakery although I can't remember the name.

MuddyGrub ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 9:13 AM

Fantastic scene, with ripples and lots of trees! It's a really beautiful scene.

Sambucus ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 9:36 AM

Definitely pro. Maybe blend in the waters edge where it touches the near shore? I think I may have been tempted to add a small canoe or suchlike to cement the Canadian feel. Either with paddler or if you havent got Poser, then beached near the foreground. Or if you have PSP or PS, Id try a small swirl effect in the water to make it look like a fish feeding. I like little touches like that but the image stands well as it is.

Phantast ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 10:06 AM

Alberta or BC - but could be Washington. It's a nicely composed picture. I see two problems - firstly, the snow line looks too low to me. Secondly, that amount of haze doesn't look realistic to me. IMO Bryce haze is much too vigorous as a rule - you have to keep it under control.

electroglyph ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 10:13 AM

It's rained almost every day here for the last month. It always looks a lot hazier than this. My eyes thank you sincerely for this beautiful image!

This is a fantastic image Danamo.... I have been to Canada and this reminds me of it very much. Excellent work mate. I love it. 8)

Great work Danamo, love the all the detail, colors and perspective. Waiting to see the other version now.

TheBryster ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 6:39 PM

Really great image.....but, I think maybe the mountain should be more jagged/rougher, it seems too smooth and I wonder about the variety of the trees in the middle distance.......just my 0.02p

Nothing critical to say that hasn't already been said, but I really, really like this pic! It's totally cool, can't wait to see the final with the waterfall! Very colorful and bright!

JC_01 ( ) posted Wed, 27 August 2003 at 9:28 PM

wow, love the color of this! almost looks like some of the amazing coloring done in Vue... Scenery pics are my favorite....lol ones like these just take me there.....can see myself sitting right on the waters edge, feet dangling in the water....grins

danamo ( ) posted Thu, 28 August 2003 at 12:23 PM

Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions! I think I have a better idea of where I'm going with this now.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 28 August 2003 at 12:38 PM

ALMOST looks like VUE! Jesus, JC, I'm curious if you could be any more obnoxious about your "compliments". It's not MY place to defend such a text-based assault, but it will be fun! What you REALLY meant was that Vue ALMOST looks like Bryce. Remember which one came first, buddy. Vue is based on the research and technology which Bryce pioneered, not the other way around. I have seen exactly zero images made with Vue that one couldn't have done better in Bryce. I'm done.

danamo ( ) posted Thu, 28 August 2003 at 1:06 PM

Indeed, well spoken m'lord!

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 28 August 2003 at 1:17 PM

??? What's obnoxious about JC's comments? I don't get it.

No, Rayraz, I don't think JC's comments were obnoxious at all. She's a very nice person and new to the forum so she doesn't know how defensive we in the Forum can be when Bryce is compared to the "usurper", or vice-versa.

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 28 August 2003 at 6:26 PM

I meant no real harm, just grinning and Vue-bashing. I'm not French, so Vue makes no sense to me. JC, comparing people's Bryce work to Vue is blasphemous, at best. That's like going to a sports game in your city and rooting for the opposite team! But it's all fun and games, to me... (cackles!)

Pretty cool! You might consider making the ground in the center of the picture just a tad more random in color instead of the smooth green if it is covered with the same grasses you have in the lower right corner. Just out of curiosity, what is the ridge of conifers made out of? Bryce trees, somebody elses' trees, terrain with spikes, etc.? I love 'em.
