Subject: Garbage in the fractal forum

This thread was started a couple of days ago by a new contributer to the fractal gallery, after receiving a couple of "less than complimantary" comments on their image ( [here](http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=473017) ).

It has to be one of the ugliest pieces of writing I have seen - do the admins have an opinion as to whether this kind of forum content is acceptable?

I think that the reaction the artist took to the comments could be considered to be somewhat "extreme", but really, I don't think they deserved either the unwelcoming comments to the image, or the subsequent hurling of insults and abuse which followed. My own opinion is that both the original image post, and the forum thread should be deleted, and the artists allowed to post again in a more diginfied manner.

It would be nice to also see some kind of apology from all those who allowed themselves to take the opportunity to publicly post the unnecessary insults.

I have brought this issue to the attention of admin as the moderator of the fractal forum is offline at the moment. Thanks.

Perhaps a tutorial on how to leave CONSTRUCTIVE comments is in order. Sorry but "no redeeming qualities" is not constructive. That's opinion.

Those insults where absolutely the most horrible & unsensitive I've ever seen. shakes head and rolls the eyes And I thought the Poser forum was getting funky lately, that one takes the cake. Talk about artisitical arrogance. sigh

what ever happened to freedom of speech?....constructive or not....this is probably what i dislike most about this site is the constant whinning about comments one receives.....you cant expect to receive all the "wow thats excellent" or all constructive comments that one hopes to get or just all have negative useless comments....but have abit of everything....variety is the spice of life .....look at the reviews from the movie gigli ..... does that stop jen and ben from making more movies?......no......take it with a grain of salt and prove to yourself and your critics that you are strong and learn from it....or else just dont enable the comments :-) ...the world can be a beautiful place....but also it can be a nasty place as well.....cant have one without the other.....cause if you think that then maybe you should wake up to reality :-)

People have the freedom of speech to insult whomever they want just as people have the freedom of speech to tell someone there's a better way to behave.

In my opinion, a comment should be either a compliment or a constructive criticism couched in proper terms. Anything else is trolling and anyone trying to hide behind free speech arguments to evade such responsibility deserves to be hunted down. The right of free speech demands both accountability and responsibility as it's price.

ok thats fair and all....but why are memebrs sooo irraitated by ususally "one" bad non constructive comment?....while enjoying a few good comments and maybe one or 2 constructive comments on the same piece?..... "a comment should be either a compliment or a constructive criticism couched in proper terms" well in the work force it doesnt work that way.....you have to endure all types of comments from all types of people ...some being great ...some being constructive.,...and of course some being nasty ......you get the full package ...if you think getting a bad comment from someone you wont see face to face on this forum is bad try and dealing it with an employeer or a client you work for......it sucks yes...but its like that in any other job around......its normal! ...and a artist has to learn to deal with it cause if you cant then maybe one should just stick with showing there moms there work and get the happy go lucky go comments to help with their ego:-)

I agree with you. But new people tend to react more and the fact that someone is new should be taken in to consideration by commenters. In a perfect world anyway. :)

I quite agree about an artist having to have a bit of a thickened skin to deal with customers/clients in the real world. Yes there are indeed nasty, small people out there as well. I have worked with some of them myself both as an artist and an engineer. I suppose I see renderosity as a club,a community group where we can come to share and perhaps help others as we ourselves have been helped. I suppose this is why I feel a bit betrayed if I see a flat-out trolling. This is not the real world, it is a place to learn and grow and a honest crit is a part of that process. Just waking up and pissing on a work is not. I feel that if you care enough to look, you should care enough to help if you can. Richard
