Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 03 8:14 am)
You can safely delete most items. You do need to take care over the geometries, however. Geometry props, lights, deformers, etc will need to be kept. You will also need to keep P5 Don and the library file for him to use in the Walk Designer. Also, in textures keep the ground default texture or replace it with one with the same name. I suggest you back up your complete runtime into a different folder and keep it in reserve.
When you say it freezes when changing cameras, what kind of size scene is this with? Does it do this with just one or two characters in the scene, or are we talking about 3 V3s with dynamic clothing and hair? (I've found hair one of the heaviest crashers of P5) You're running this on WinXP I take it? I must say, P5 crashes for me at times, particularly that nasty bug where it just dies if it can't find a texture reference, but since SR3 it's rarely died during a moderate scene - say two characters and some medium-to-heavy props.

In Geometries -The must keeps are : deform/lights/maleOrig keep props and I am not sure if Camera is needed, it is not in P4. Rather than delete, you may consider moving the rest to a satellite Runtime - you can get at it if you need to but it is out of the way. The only part in Libraries would be the Primitives If you set your preferences to open to an empty stage, you will not use maleOrig.obj, but you may need to restore to factory state and Poser may not like him being missing at a time when you don't want Poser being distracted.
The freeze came with a single Judy, no texturing, no hair. V3 is still not installed. I only wanted to try out some camera setting that came default with P5. As for the machine, it's more than strong enough as I bought it for my C4D renders and Photoshop: PIV 3.02G with hyperthreading, 1,5Gig DDRam, GeForce4Ti 4200 128MB vidcard (OpenGL and Dualplanes on) and two HDD of 40Gig each, running XPPro. The puter is not connected to the Internet and has no systems resources taken by virusscanner, games, background utilities, firewall etc. Only my five apps (Cinema, Photoshop, Ultrafractal, Poser and Xara X), and I never have two open at the same time. The C partition is defragmented and has 10Gig free. So there won't be a problem here. Perhaps it was a bad starter, who knows? Should it happen again, then I will contact CL. Apart from that, I bought Poser for posing, and that is what is does very well. Very impressive and ease of use. Yet I suppose that the real adventures start when one leaves the highways so as to speak... The intro on 3D in the manual is very well written. Anyways thanks for the advice. I will certainly make a backup of the runtime folder before I undertake any action.

I can't see why it would freeze on a camera swap - your set-up is more powerful than mine by about 50%. If it keeps happening, I'd have to suggest (eek) a reinstall if CL can't give any suggestions... What I have found is that no matter how powerful the system, it's possible to "push" Poser too fast. EG If I try to load V3 and then click into the Pose palette, or change the lighting, or whatever, before the HDD stops whirring, it can spell bad news. Happens less with SR3 than it used to though - or am I just learning more patience?

Yet another beginners question. I have Poser5, and I have Victoria3. Most of the meshes that come with Poser don't interest me at all, and I would like to throw most of it out and keep only what I know I will use. Has anyone of you experienced difficulties with this, or is there perhaps another way to deactivate most items. In fact, an empty app in which I could choose myself which meshes I would add would be ideal. Must say that P5 seems to be rather unstable, even with the latest update and on my P4 3GHz, 1,5GB ram: freezes when changing camras etc... No other app shows this behaviour. I read that CL considers P5 the "professional" line, but eighty percent of what they include is not useable.
