I have had a good look through the "Best Ranking" now that they have been shuffled around by the new standard deviation method, and I must say that I am impressed. A lot of images that were hidden in the depths have now risen to the top. Some of the ones that were already there have been pushed back a bit. I did have one on the first page that is now on page 5, and a few that I could never find now on page 2 and 3. I think this is much better and will help sort out trolls and people who vote harder and bring the cream to the top.
... and for those that don't allow ranking, I hope to find your images in the "most commented" or "most viewed". I understand those of you (as I have been one too for a short while) that don't allow rankings, but when someone comes into a huge gallery like Renderosity, they need some method to find images they find appealing. The rankings help this, as do the comments and view count. Another great filter is the "Genre". I have only been a member of this site for a short period and am always trying hard to find those images that get lost because they don't have any means of lifting themselves from the depths of thousands of others. My two cents worth and I hope those that don't allow ranking may reconsider over time where the trolls (and multi-IDs) are kept at bay and there is more general fairness around. Thanks, Sacada (Scott Anderson)
Sacada i agree with you, the change in the ranking calculation has done the Vue gallery (and i guess other galleries too) only good. I browsed through the first 12 pages or so and was so delighted to discover many wonderful images i have never knew before. (i'm a Renderosity member for less than 4 months). Those images were probably burried deep down there before. Personaly i have disabled ranking for my last 2 images, but i will enable it again from now on.

Renderosity has put in a new method of figuring out the average rankings on an image in the galleries. Explanation (of sorts!) is at the link. I have to say, as someone who is maths-challenged, I don't quite get Tammy's explanation. Guess we'll have to see how it goes.Sgiathalaich
