It's finally here!

PBooost 1.4 is the long awaited library manager for Poser 3, 4, 5 and Propack, English, French or German versions.

tutorial page: http://www.horseless-headsmen.co.uk/PBooostTutorial/1_4/

It works by creating an "extra layer" between Poser and its library folders, allowing the artist to further categorise their folders and files into "banks" and dynamically switch between them during a Poser session.

This means that you can reduce the number of folders you see in the "drop down list" on the Library sidebar at any one time... leading to a more efficient and less frustrating Poser experience!

Fully Poser 5 compatible! From sub-folders to compressed content to Poser 5 dial groups, it's all at your fingertips. Now you can make the final move to the perfect Poser 5 setup. Full backward compatability with Poser 3 and up. Hook up those runtimes and get rendering!

The new Deep File Editor contains an armoury of tools and functions which make advanced Poser work a breeze. From creating quick mat poses in a flash to advanced emc work the DFE makes it all easy. You can create content you never thought imaginable in a fraction of the time.

Enhanced runtime security means PBooost 1.4 is robust, It even works if you have Poser on a removeable drive! You can work with confidence and speed knowing that PBooost 1.4 will never miss a beat.

Customisable UI. The interface colours can be seamlessly altered to match your mood or desktop to make PBooost 1.4 the most easy-on-the-eye utility around.

For those who have PBooost 1.3, it is free to upgrade to PBooost 1.4... Go to your 'previous purchases' in the marketplace and re-download PBooost.

Happy Booosting!!!

Howard:))

Howard, I want to try your PBoost again, I just downloaded the new version. My Question is, I have a whole bunch of Poser files sitting outside of Poser. I only have Poser and these files on my DriveD. I have lots of space on this drive. Before I run or unzip the new PBoost, should I put all these folders back in Poser? Leah

Love is Grandchildren.

hogwarden ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 1:35 PM

Hi Leah... Hmmm.. don't worry about that too much... You can if you like, but it's probably going to be easier to drag-drop the folders into your Poser installation within PBooost... using the Browse pane. Have fun! H:))

Spit ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 2:35 PM

Woooooieeeee! It's out! Yay! Howard...I got mine at Poser Pro's. How do I get the upgrade?

hogwarden ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 5:50 PM

Hi Spit... I think a few more hours of patience may be in order... There's a tech glitch at PoserPros they're working through to get current customers to be able to d/l the update... It'll not be too much longer. Mehndi will be able to give you a progress report! (Damn confound it all! I wanted to do a simultaneous release!) Bestest... Howard:))

ronstuff ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 6:55 PM

Congrats, Howard! I know you have worked long and hard with this release, and from my preliminary exposure to the beta I can say it is an incredibly powerful tool - a MUST-Have for anybody who is collecting Poser files. Oh, thanks for the customizable interface colors! Now my tired old eyes can read all the titles! Great work.

rockets ( ) posted Sat, 30 August 2003 at 4:13 AM

Howard, I'm still using plain ol' Poser4 and speak English. Is there any reason for me to upgrade to this new version of Pbooost (besides the colors)? Carol

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

Spit ( ) posted Sat, 30 August 2003 at 4:54 AM

Well, I see PBoost1.4 is now available at Poser Pros. Yay. Are you going to notify your Poser Pros PBoost customers as to how to get it? I missed the update for another product I had gotten over there (a few months ago and now I don't even remember what it was) I'm assuming because of their system. If I have trouble getting this it's a darn good reason not to shop there anymore. Sigh.

hogwarden ( ) posted Sat, 30 August 2003 at 9:35 AM

Hi Thx Ronstuff! rockets... hmmm... the new Deep File Editor has really been suped-up. But if you're happy with what you've got you might as well stick with it! Spit... the PBooost 1.3 customer records at Poser Pros have been transferred to PBooost 1.4... so you can just 're-download' the new version from the store page... I just got a mail from Russell telling me it's ready. As soon as I get an hour tonight I'll do a proper release notification in the forums there. H:))

Many thanks for the free update, hogwarden. First impressions... It ain't a whole hell of a lot different from the previous release in use - I haven't tried any of the new features yet - but boy oh boy, is it ever slow. All the menus and features feel "sticky" now, as if the thing is struggling to keep up. Sorry to sound like a Jonah; I'm sure it's a fine and lovely upgrade, but is there anything that can be done about the speed?

Way to go! Thanks Hogwarden! (and Poser Pros)

hogwarden ( ) posted Sat, 30 August 2003 at 2:10 PM

Hi SamT... Yes... you can uncheck 'Smooth but slow user interface' in the main menu! This turns off 'double buffering' of the controls and panes. The smooth interface is fine on a fastish machine, but if you have lower then about 900Mhz CPU speed it's best to switch off the smooth interface. ...if PBooost seems slow, what on earth must Poser be like for you!?!?! LOL! H:))

zukeprime ( ) posted Sat, 30 August 2003 at 8:52 PM

Hogwarden, Thanks for a great product! I've been having some problems that I need assistance with. I have PBooost 1.3, but recently reformated my primary harddrive, re-installing Windows XP. PBooost 1.3 was on my secondary harddrive and subsequently, was never removed. I downloaded the 1.4 package on my user account screen here at Renderosity, and installed it onto my secondary harddrive. Problem is, it locks up. I've uninstalled 1.3 and 1.4 (1.3 registry entries would have been wiped out in the reformat anyway.) Re-installed 1.4, still locks up. Uninstalled it again, then started over by installing 1.3, then 1.4. Still locks up. 1.3 worked like a champ, so I'm probably missing some key component here. Right now, just so you know what's up, 1.3 is completely removed from my system, and I've got a fresh install of 1.4. I've removed all the '##switchBank' folders...thinking something was up there. All to no avail. Running P4, WinXP NTFS.

zukeprime ( ) posted Sat, 30 August 2003 at 8:54 PM

err...wish there was an 'edit' button on this forum. When I say "locks up," it used to show the entry pop-up about hitting the flashing "runtime" etc. The front page would load, then nothing. Now, it just loads the front page with a curious white block (graphic glitch) on the top left and refuses to respond at that point.

hogwarden ( ) posted Sun, 31 August 2003 at 10:47 AM

Ouch bombdropr... Certainly a complex series of events!! I'm certain I can get you back on track... There must be a disparity between the data in the registry and the actual folders. Although locking up like this has not happened before. Please mail me a screen-shot of your poser library folder-tree in explorer... just the root of it... and of what PBooost does when it starts!! h@horseless-headsmen.co.uk ps1: Oh... you do click the flashing 'runtime' don't you?? ps2: Try hitting 'Enter' at lock-up... there could be a message-box hidden behind the main form? Howard:))

Just want you to know that mine is installed and working fine. I do have one request though. Because it's very annoying on my machine. PLEASE let us be able to turn off that network search when it opens. It's totally unnecessary on my machine (no network) and I don't need it clicking my floppy drive either. I've told PBoost where my runtimes are..it has no need to search. But the most annoying thing is that it makes my machine pop my Passport entry box which I have to cancel each time I open the program. The thumbnails are very convenient and the DFE runs much faster now than in 1.3. A very nice upgrade!

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 31 August 2003 at 3:14 PM

hogwarden, Poser runs as smooth as silk on my system - 1.6 GHz Athlon with 1 GB RAM. Booost 1.3 ran just dandy, too. This version seems more than a bit iffy in all kinds of ways. When it's running, my explorer toolbar buttons don't update. So if I move my mouse over the button for Rosity (for example), the text box shows another window. Also Booost has crashed a few times when I've tried to use the Deep File Editor. I get about 30 error boxes saying "Access Violation Error" and I have to close it down in the Task Editor. FYI I'm running Poser on my secondary drive, E: Any suggestions?

Hi... Spit: OK... network search was something I wanted to include... but there's no need for it to be initiated at startup. I've dabbled so now you press a 'Browse Network' button to open the network folders for browsing. Thi smeans that your network isn't probed until you want it to be. All the testers with networked systems seened happy with the setup regarding the Network Browse pane... but bloody windows wants to hassle YOU every time. I'm sure you won't be alone, so this will be in the next update... looks like it will be towards the end of the week. If you like, I can send you an installer with the new 'No-Network-Startup'. Just E-mail me. Sam... Uck! You should be fine with that nice fast system. Hmmm... The deep file editor uses OpenGL... but should be safe if your card doesn't support it. No problems about Poser being on E:. The access violation error means that something is exceptioning outside of PBooost's exception-handling routines. Hmmm... The Explorer problem is something I have never come across before. Could be that you need a windows update? I am using an explorer-style component, but it won't interfere with your windows explorer windows... !!! Please mail me with more details. Some screen-shots would be invaluable... I'm sorry about the problems you've had... and I'll sort it out for you. Ouch! Howard:))

hogwarden ( ) posted Mon, 01 September 2003 at 8:12 AM

Spit: I've fixed the Network Browse problem. Now the network isn't sought for folders until you press a little 'Browse the Network' button. That does the trick. Send me an e-mail at h@horseless-headsmen.co.uk and I'll send it over. Sam... I think I'm tracking the problem down to shell32.dll... the 'explorer style' components in PBooost use it. Could you let me know what version of shell32.dll your windows is using? There may be a disparity which is easily fixed. Everyone else OK??? Howard:))

Well, I was hoping the new version would let me use PBoost while running Poser. But it won't :( Oh well, such is my luck.

Howard - the version of shell32.dll I have is: 6.00.2800.1233 (xpsp2.030604-1804) As installed from Microsoft last week, due to the recommended updates to block the Blaster worm. AFAIK, my version of XP is now bang up to date. FWIW, I really appreciate the time and effort you're putting in to support PBooost and its users. I'll send you some screen shots if they are still needed.
