~145,000 have logged in here in the last year.

Thanks thats given me some kinda figure to go by but does any one know for sure how many there are?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 12:44 PM

I don't think ANYBODY knows how many there are. Of course CL must have some idea of how many copies they've sold over time, but I am sure it is considered confidential information. And then there are all the people who have got P3 from a magazine, not counting those who never paid for their version at all. You can't really use the number of members here. LOTS of people use this site without any intentions of ever even touching Poser with a 6 foot pole.

CL are unlikely to share the number of copies sold, since it's commercially sensitive information, and they'd probably opt to exagerate at any ambiguities. There are groups which at least try to track software sales figures, but they tend to release only the headline figures (Word vs. Word Perfect, Freehand vs. Illustrator maybe) and miss many channels. Not every Renderosity member has Poser, still less a legal copy, and not every Poser user has registerd here. What are you wanting the figure for, or is it just curiosity?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 12:52 PM

Cross posted with Trekkie - though I wouldn't be surprised if the sales figures for earlier versions got lost in the MC to CL transfer.

A few years ago Metacreations stated they had 66,000 copys sold (if memory serves me correct that is ;o), i think that was about P3 time ..Steve

maclean ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 2:52 PM

Someone, a while back, had a web-map of poser users around the world. I logged onto it, but can't seem to find the addy now. Not that it would tell you how many there are. But it sure was interesting to see how we're spread out around the world. mac

'A few years ago...... that was about P3 time' A few years ago, steve? P3 time seems like CENTURIES ago. Or is that just me? mac

Dark Whisper had the Poser map. I can't remember the site addy off-hand. It's something like 3duniverse.co.za - but if you end up somewhere else - don't blame me. ;-)

melanie ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 7:55 PM

Not to mention that more than one person in a household might be using it, so copies sold isn't an accurate count. If two or three people in the house are using the same computer and creating Poser images, that only counts as one by sales, but could really be three. There really isn't any way to count every last Poser user. It's an interesting question, though. I know there are thousands, and new users coming in all the time. Melanie

Well, of all the Poser users I know, there are only 2 of us on this Forum, and another half dozen or more who have never even visited once, despite my mentioning this site. They don't hang around on-line, not even for help, and all the work they do is professional and owned by the publishers, so can't be put into the galleries. Carolly

And I thought the title of this thread was "How many poser users does it take to change a light bulb?" Answer: The light bulb never gets changed, just rendered a bit brighter the next time.

I think it would depend on whther the lightbulb is gimbal locked or not.... What, there aren't even a million of us?

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.
