Subject: Which should i get, Vue, or Bryce 5?

DigitalAtrocity ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 3:05 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 3:22 AM

Hi all, I've been pondering on whether to buy vue 4, or Bryce 5. I've almost made up my mind in Vue's favour. I think the atmospheres and clouds in Vue are way bettter than in Bryce. Could you guys suggest the Pros and cons of Vue and Bryce? I just need to hear what you all think about Vue. Should I wait and get the new version of Vue coming out soon?

If you ask in this forum, we will say get Vue. But you may download a demo of both and try and decide;-) Guitta

Just so you know. Corel is now in the hands of a capital investment group. They have given a time of 18 months to turn the company around. If at the end of this time Corel is not viable again the divisons will be sold off. After checking on the finance side of things I was able to get a short list of products that were going to be trashed. Bryce, Ventura, KTP tools, Photo Paint. Also I have been told that the Bryce code is in terrible shape. The program really needs to be re-written from the ground up. If you do buy Bryce understand that you may have no support for the program with in little more than a year. Just some things to keep in mind. Spaz...

If you click on the 'Backroom' link in the header of the Vue forum, page down on the left menu and you'll see a link saying 'Comparing Vue and...'. That is a good summary of comparisons. And test-driving the demos is a great way to see which program fits your style. I have both Vue and Bryce (versions 4 and 5), and I do 99% of my stuff in Vue. I find it easier to drive, and the editors aren't so had to figure out. But I go back to Bryce occasionally and enjoy some of what it can do too. If you haven't already, you may want to check the Vue and Bryce galleries to see the differences in renders. If you are a Poser user, you will find that Vue imports Poser files directly; you don't have to import them as 3ds or obj, like you do with Bryce. Additionally, it looks like the future of Bryce may be up in the air, as Corel was just sold and there is no info yet on whether Bryce will still be supported. But best check on that at the Bryce forum.

Well, I'll just come right out and say "Get Vue!". The primary reason is that you have much more control over placement of objects in a scene, and significantly more control and ability to alter objects, and the individual components of objects. (Things like their color, shinyness, etc. More control translates into ease of use. (I have a copy of Bryce, I make commercial products for it, and I participate somewhat in its very large user community. The user community is providing a much greater level and quality of support for the Bryce product than the manufacturer, so it will persist for a long time. The artist community of Bryce users is just as good as the Vue artist community and it is larger.) But still, Vue offers you more capability,in the end. Get Vue - you will never regret it.

Hands down - it has to be Vue! I bought Bryce 5 when it first came out and it is great software, there's no 2 ways about it. But a couple of months ago I took up the offer of buying upgrading to Vue 4 from Bryce 5 for just $99 on a whim... I use Vue 4 all the time and I haven't touched Bryce since for all the reasons just explained. And I am still a novice and going through the learning curve. Don't really know what else to add.. Buy Vue! ;)

Corel no longer support Bryce 5 and have no plans to update it in the future...reason enough to buy Vue ;-) Cheers

I have to agree with Diandra. I did exactly the same thing. I went back to Bryce once, just for chuckles, and found the interface so hard to work with compared to Vue. I've since uninstalled it. Vue is great! Lin

I have both Bryce and Vue and use Vue for 90% of my work. If you have Poser, Vue is a must.

DigitalAtrocity ( ) posted Thu, 04 September 2003 at 7:48 PM

Ok,Ok,Ok...LOL-Vue it is!!!I tried bryce all day yesterday,at a friend;s house and it sucked compared to Vue, which i tried at another friend's house. You all are right, vue is best. I found that the interface is easy, and i beleive the skies and atmospheres to be wat better in vue. Cheerio! Thanx for everything!!!

I'm with RichardT, if you have Poser, Vue is a must have.

of course get Vue for the Bryce problems reported by Spaz : maybe Bryce will not exist next year , who knows ? But if you choose Vue, you must keep in mind that it's not a modeller, and you must choose a video card and OS which are compatible with Vue (see some recent threas about it and openGL pbs) ;=) Yves

I don't think you can say Bryce sucks after trying it only once at a friends house. My first Bryce image also sucked (well maybe my last one also LOL). I have both Vue and Bryce and find the Bryce interface easier that the 4 windows of Vue, but thats personal. Also for the low price of $89 for Bryce right now, you can't loose much.

"Also for the low price of $89 for Bryce right now, you can't loose much" Except customer support for non supported product...which personally I feel is as important as the software itself. Cheers

I use both Vue & Bryce. You can dig into a lot more complexity in the Bryce DTE, and Vue has more plants out of the box. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, and the Bryce community is very supportive.

Ohhh I agree entirely Caly, the Bryce community is very supportive...but if you need someone to re-code the software to provide a bug fix or add a new feature, then you also need the support of the company that provides the software. Cheers

People do stuff on their own, like all of the Poser python script addons etc. If the Bryce version you have works for you, you don't need addons/bug fixes. It has been said before that 'Bryce is dead' and it has always come back. It is interesting to see and watch what becomes of it. The best Corel should do is sell it. Doc Mojo would do interesting things with it. One can only hope.
