I went to curious labs and saw poser artist, poser 4 was gone from the site. Has poser artist replaced poser 4? Why are they not selling poser4 anymore?

Mesh_Magick ( ) posted Tue, 09 September 2003 at 7:36 AM

Is poser artist replacing poser 4? Does poser artist contain all the files that poser 4 had? Or is it an upgraded version of poser 4?

From what I understand, Poser Artist is nothing (or very little) more than Poser 4 in new wrapping. In other words, it has replaced Poser 4. I don't think it's an upgraded Poser 4 in the current state, but the idea is to develop it as a new product line based on Poser 4 technology. Kind of like an entry level Poser for those not interested in the more advanced Poser 5 stuff.

So whats different about poser 4 and poser artist? can I still buy poser 4? My Cd was lost in a move and I can't find it, Plus to make things worse poser now wont open and I need to reinstall it. I deleted the rsr file but that didnot work, I think when I was getting rid of old files I accidently deleted an important file of poser 4.

Iv been working in poser 5 but it's soooo slow and crashes alot when rendering complex ligt scenes with anti alias on. and that with the sr3 patch installed.

If you have your proof of purchase and you registered your poser 4 CL may sell you a replacement CD, doesn't hurt to ask them. My Bryce CD broke in half, I bought it from Metacreations but Corel sent me a new one because I was registered. Marque

"So whats different about poser 4 and poser artist?" Nothing, I think. But I would fire off a question to CL just to be sure.

Hi Mesh_Magick I am directing you to the recent Spotlight Interview link where everything you wanted to know about Poser Artist can be found :) As best I can gather from the information [and as mentioned above in the previous postings] - Poser Artist is just a "repackaging of Poser 4" - and is Not an Upgrade! As to getting a new CD, I agree with Marque, Contact CL with a proof of purchase and a request for a replacement CD. I am not sure if they charge for replacements but I am sure they will help you out. ladynimue

So I guess we'll start needing to label our products as 'Poser4/Artist Ready'.

From what Curious Labs was saying in a previous post where we discussed this is that Poser Artist is Poser 4. They wanted to keep selling Poser 4 as an entry level Poser Program, but vendors like Amazon.com and others didn't want to keep selling an older version of Poser while they were concurently selling Poser 5. Also for academic uses some people, if you can conceive this, actually found the trapeze swinging Posette on the box cover to be obscene or offensive. They say that Poser 4 (now Poser Artist) has an easier learning curve and for people just getting into 3D art. Whether Daz will market to a Poser Artist community is another story, and no one seems to know if Daz installers will work with the new Artist package. Anyone from Daz out there reading these posts, could you please answer the question.

I bet the installers work since ones oldr then Poser 5 work for Poser 5. Most of the time I tell the installers where Poser is because I dont like to wait for it to search my whole drive.

If you registered Poser 4 or have your old registration number anywhere, CL will replace your discs for around $25. I know, that's how I got back into Poser after 3 or 4 years. It took about a month to get the replacement discs. Emily

Online Now!

The only way to break most DAZ installers would be to change the Runtime structure, which we know they haven't done. At worst you might have to find the installation root (equivalent to Poser 4) by hand.

I went today to curious labs site and submitted a question that has to do with the re-installation of P4. I submitted my question by hitting the OK key. I got a new page, with the same entries as the page I submitted my question. I thought that I would have get a next page that written on it: thank you for your question or something like that. So, till that moment I have no idea if my question arrived to the right place or not. Seeing this thread I thought I would mention my experience. I mean if somebody wants to contact CL, how can you know that your reached CL?

I got a replacement CD from CL for Poser Pro Pack and it was only about $10 (in 2001). My original was stolen only because it was packaged in a DVD case and the thief must have thought it was a movie. Anyway, CL was very good about the replacement and it only took about two weeks to get.

Poser 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Pro 2014, 11, 11 Pro
