This is tough. I can't think of anything that doesn't need too many Poser figures to pull off. This ought to be right up Flak's alley, though, LOL. This may be a bit unfair to those members without Poser. Just my 2 cents.
This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

It's OK, I usually go blank when the new challenge topic goes up. I'm sure we'll all think of something.

It must be something in the air. :-) There's "Roman Building" Challenge over in the Rhino forum. But... Nice! Like it! I have an idea or two, but we'll see. Zhann, must it be really historically historical or it can be fantasy situated in a historical period, like, say, chasing a werewolf in a medieval village in Germany? tjohn, the Pharos of Alexandria? Semiramis's Hanging Gardens?

I think it's a rather neat idea for a challenge. Perhaps you could all get some inspirtion from Virtually Historical, it's a CG site that only deals in historical scenes, it can be reached at the link and it has many links to historical facts and fiction. 8) CatlinElectroglyph, I thought of having a Mythology theme, where everyone picks a myth from whatever culture and illustrates it, but alot happened in Ancient Rome of note too, no myths, maybe next time...;)
And I thought of the 'Poser Problem', myself being 'poser challenged' even though I have the software, but there are lots of ways to get around that, distant pov's, vehicles, 2d planes (although not as realistic, the creative use of)
real planes, the kind you fly in (Pearl Harbor, Dog fights over Germany, come to mind),
I'd prefer an actual moment in History, not that fantasy doesn't have appeal, a historical 'sense of place', or an event that actually happened is what I'm going for....yes, historically historical...
And Drac, I was thinking of you, ;]
Everyone think about it awhile, ideas will start to flood your mind, and Thanks, Catlin, for the link to inspiration, much appreciated.....
LOL, Hyperborea, I expect to see those clouds in a render, ..:]

It all sounds great! The only thing we couldn't give away in the backroom would be the inported poser figures, but anything else shouldn't be a problem. Let's get to work....! AgentSmith

Sparr, history that has yet to happen is called the 'Future' not 'History' And 'yes', man landing on the Moon is history, the space shuttle accidents, the russian space station, the voyager space probe launch, the comet dropping into Jupiter, and 'no' we haven't gotten to Mars yet....;) Shadowdragonlord, as far back as the cave man, or dinosaurs, hmmmmmmmm, I don't think so, as there are no verifiable accounts of what happened....

Claymor, no, I'm not, by that I meant, I want everyone to put some thought into the historial piece they do, and to clarify, since you brought it up, take your inspiration from 'RECORDED' history, how's that, better now...;] Telson, it can be an event (ex; first flight), an object (ex; first airplane), or a person(s) (ex; the Wright Bros.)

I am confused about the due dates...AS says this is the September challenge, but this thread says October. When (approximately) are our entries due? Do we really only have 2 wks to do these? I would really be in favor of the idea that someone else posted in a previous thread, that the challenge be decided 2 months away. ie...winner of January challenge decides on the March theme. AS could pose a small challenge of some kind for Sept and the winner could chose November's challenge, and leave this one of Zhann's to be the October challenge as she states. Just my $.02 (which might be lime colored by next month) Tres

tjohn -> lol, yeah..... Flak starts looking at reference photo's of the Somme... to see what 100,000s of people look like

Once again, I am honored you thought enough of my work to vote it first place, everyone did such great work, I count myself lucky to be among such talented people, it rubs off you know....:)
This will be refined some but here are my thoughts on the basic October Challenge;
it can be any period from the Ancients to Modern Day, a few examples;
Ancient Greece
Ceasar's Emmissary to Egypt
Burning of Rome
Eruption of Mt Etna, or any volcano of note
Spartans
Attack of the Vandals
Attilla's Horde
Roaring Twenties
Chicago Mobsters
Czarist Russia
French Revolution
America's War between the States (Civil War)
World War 1 or 2
Asian Warlords
Fuedal England
etc, etc....
-doesn't have to be a War image per se, romantic pre-raphaelite is nice too, the idea being to be able to identify the peroid you picked, by atmosphere, vehicles, dress, something that will allow others to look at it and say,'hey that's (England, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Scotland, America...) during the 12th (13th, 14th, 15, 16th,........20th century) when they had___________(fill in the blank)
-Use the knowledge gained in the last challenges
-import models or make your own, if you do make a model for your render it would be nice if it was made available to other Brycers, by uploading to the backroom, AS, thoughts on this?
-postwork kept to a minimum
-any time of year
make it a notable date, like the 'fall of the Wall'
landscape, seascape or cityscape, no metaphors, allegories or representations
it's this or working in the sky lab making puffy clouds ;)
Any questions or suggestions to help refine this more, here's the place
