Hi everybody... I'm new to the Poser forum. It's great ta meetcha 'all I'm currently working on a "Tales From The Crypt / Creepshow / Twilight Zone / Outer Limits"Type of graphical novellete / anthology- Here is my dilemma: On the 3D World site-I found this delightfully morose HEARSE MOTOR COACH in .3ds format - I thought to myself "MY GOD-I FINALLY FOUND ONE-I FINALLY FOUND ONE-YEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!" Unfortunately-being brand new to poser,I might be able to import it into poser as a stagnant,colorless,non-dynamic static prop, but that's about it. I need to have this textured, scaled, and make the doors poseable for poser 4 / pro. If you can do at least part of this stuff for me I would really appreciate it.My email is groovy1969@hotmail.com let me know what you can do and I'll pass on the .3ds file- thank you.

You might want to post this on the "Wishing Well" forum under Admin Forums. I posted something over there and got an immediate response and found someone willing to create what I wanted. I'm looking for a hearse myself so would be interested even in the static one you mention. I'll have to check out 3D World.

Wow, it's a very cool one. WE had a baby blue one like that, and a classic black, of course-- and someone in town had a pink hearse-- he was a figure of scorn. Emily the Undertaker's Daughter

You can send it to me and I will get it to pose for you, I will have to check out the model and see what is involved but it looks pretty straight forward. Let me know...Sharen

whbos ( ) posted Wed, 10 September 2003 at 7:58 PM

Sharen: Let us know if you create it and put it up for sale. I'll definitely purchase it. I've been searching for a hearse to go with my cemetery scenes. Bill

odeathoflife: like he said...on the 3D World website. If you go to their resources area... It is a model courtesy given from Geometrix and comes with a htm file with their usage conditions.

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 2:03 AM

From 3D World - it's a GEOMAX mesh

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 2:05 AM

OOPS-GEOMETRIX-SORRY,lol

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 2:17 AM

Look-since this IS a high demand item, and trust me it is-then I'm sure SOMEBODY out there would be interested in perhaps making their own HEARSE from scratch in 3DSMAX or LIGHTWAVE. And-posting it - hopefully - at least for a limited time for free or sharing it with the rest of the community,at least for a while anyway. I am a poor, damn near impoverished slob who gets his goodies from free downloads.I also have NO skill doing models from scratch - not to mention owning one of the better modelling progs available out there-which even if I had one - would be like shoeing a dead horse. I would LOVE for someone to make a poseable hearse and post it in the freebies section and make it available for commercial and non-commercial,which is preferable to altering someone else's model and worrieing about section 3,paragraph 4,sub-section "d" of how many things you CAN'T use it for - or else you lose the bentley and the kids don't go to college-wink wink...

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 2:33 AM

FOOTNOTE: What would REALLY be cool is if somebody came up with a poseable HEARSE in THREE COLOR VARIATIONS: BLACK, WHITE, AND AN OPTIONAL OLD FASHIONED AMBULANCE TEXTURE WITH AN ATTACHABLE EMERGENCY FLASHER SET / GUM BALL FLASHERS FOR THE ROOF! And-That you also had optional flags for the front fenders that come in standard black for funerals, and american flags for funeral precessions for military, civil service, and state funerals. I know what your saying-geez Mugs, that's creepy!-Well,I'm gonna be trying to write a lot of these stories, and in the sci fi / horror genre's - you need a hat for almost every occasion... these were just my thoughts...

Bryde ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 2:56 AM

Mugsey: True....especially if you have a look at the 3ds mesh. It consist of a single block like body mesh, two side-mirrors and 4 wheels. So there isn't a single door mesh to be pose-able. The file is missing the texture map too, it wants a HEARSE.JPG for texturing the whole car to make up the windows, doors and stuff. Without this map the car would look like the attached one. You could convert it into a obj file and then run it through UV-Mapper to get a new texture template for your mapping, though.

I am really new with the modelling thing but I would think it takes a lot of work to make a good looking, poseable hearse car model, so dunno about the free thing - especially with all those attachments you seem to want. There are some poser cars for free, so someone might just ask those car modellers out here.

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 3:00 AM

Good points bryde-I found the file with the textures on the GEOMETRIX homesite-so that's not that much of a prob-HOWEVER-could this be used as a backbone mesh and modified INTO a new hearse model?

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 3:06 AM

As I recall-Sharkey made a DAMNED OUTSTANDING poseable corvette of PROFESSIONAL qaulity(it's still on his site-a.k.a.Sharkey's Gate)-that model IS for free,so it is only logical that someone-AT LEAST for a limited time - might make a basic, but somewhat nice poseable Hearse on post it for free download-ya never know...

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 3:13 AM

Footnote: I assume that whoever decided to make this prop would DEFINITELY have fun doing it.

Bryde ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 4:02 AM

file_75573.jpg

Hm...I took a wire shot of the model, which is a very low-poly model too - more on a game model level. With a lot of cutting and adding verts and points one might be able to make a better mesh out of it, but then I guess it would be really better, to start from scratch with some very good images of such a beast for reference. And yes, Sharkey has great poserready cars for free. There are several cars in the market place too, ready for poser.

The basic might be free, with a texture template for coloring as you need and somebody else might be able to add some stuff to it like police lights or whatever. Those add-ons are usually not that timeconsuming like the car itself.

I too think there is a demand for such kind of cars. We have a lot of usual cars in many flavours, but with all the people into Gothic and stuff they sure would love to have such a beast. I'd suggest to place your question in the wishing-list section and in the modeler sections like Rhino, Cinema 4D, Wings etc. If you have a good mesh with seperate doors, the posing is not that hard. Might even have a modeler's contest: Creating a really good Hearse for various usage...

Btw...do you have the URL of Geometrix handy, where you found the texture map? This low-poly hearse goes well for background fillings.

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 4:25 AM

URL = http://www.geo-metricks.com/ there you will find the downloads section which will lead you to the entire hearse file...

Bryde ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 4:27 AM

Yupp...just found it myself...LOL! Like I said, for far away background filling on a cemetery scene this one works fine. Let us know if you find someone interested to model that car!

whbos ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 11:38 AM

I should have taken into consideration (in my message) that you couldn't take someone else's work, make changes, and then offer it for sale. I'm glad Sharen has offered to create such a model and then offer it free. I think something like that would take a considerable amount of time and I'd still offer to pay for it.

Actually DAZ has a nice casket with a pillow. I think it's still available. I believe it was a freebie a few years ago. I'd imagine something like that would take a while to create. Not being good at modeling, I really wouldn't know.

numanoid ( ) posted Thu, 18 September 2003 at 11:39 PM

On www.creepyclown.com under "c" there is an excellent coffin in .obj formatt. Needs a texture. It's the sort of coffin you need for a hearse, because the gothic vampire coffins don't quite match the style.

Mugsey ( ) posted Thu, 18 September 2003 at 11:48 PM

I HAVE pretty much - with the exception of a few items I didn't want- almost completely plundered the creepy clown site (HMMM-PLUNDERED THE CREEY CLOWN SITE?...Now THERE'S a sentence I never thought I'de ever utter - or is it udder...No...That's a cow tit,LOL)... I reckon I've probably already got it in that case.-SO,if I do-and the hearse I'm waitin for with baited breath like a frisky sailor waitin for a taiwanese shore pass doesn't have it's own conveniently included orthapedic three lock box-then I'll probably be trying my hand at texturing... PROVISIMO!!!

Bryde ( ) posted Fri, 19 September 2003 at 2:32 AM

Ah...well...that model sure takes a while - especially if you want it Poser ready. First comes the modeling, that's difficult on its own, and then comes the UV mapping, maybe texturing and then of course you need to make it poseable. And don't forget Sharen and Mike offer a freebie each week which they just put up cause they are waiting for "Isabel" and that's no fun for sure...[watching TV and seeing all the rain and storm and such...]. So I think calm down a bit and just wait, it will be worth to wait a while, cause Sharen and Mike are the best folks doing a really beautiful job on their models.

Mugsey ( ) posted Fri, 19 September 2003 at 3:01 AM

Aaaah but I AM calm dear Bryde-just got a bit of sugar plums dancin in my head (and they have a lotta room ta dance up dere to!)- ANYHOW...I hope that Sharen and Mike are gonna be ok-that's what matters-they said Isabel seems to have tamed down a bit since earlier this evening. I hope that their riding it out ok-I assumed Mike and Sharen lived somewhere other than the eastern time zone(U.S.) because I live in Ohio-which is IN the eastern time zone-and the messages posted by Sharen often seemed to come at a rather late time of the evening-thought maybe they were in Europe or Australia or something. There's been some damage caused by the storm, but I've heard that the worst of it has mostly been where the eye made landfall. I really do hope that they're ok.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Fri, 19 September 2003 at 7:45 AM

Hi everyone, we are safe we are in Upstate NY, and those who live in OHIO, ahem.....you might get it worse then we will. We got the winds, but no rain, probably won't be so bad....we have got the Hearse started, but it will be a while...not to long, but we want it right. Been busy this week getting home ready for Isabel, but looks like we may have spent to much time, we are ready for wind and rain, and at this rate Isabel will blow herself right in Ohio's direction MUGSEY....hold on to your hat. Stay safe all of you. Sharen

Mugsey ( ) posted Fri, 19 September 2003 at 8:02 AM

Yes Sharen-Eastern and south eastern Ohio will probably get some heavy rain and gails.I'm in south western Ohio, close to Indiana, and we might get through this somewhat well-with the exception of a few scattered thunderstorms(he said-crossing his fingers, knocking on wood, and clenching his buttcheeks). This storm took nine lives so far as we know, and did some damage, but thankfully most of the people in it's path pulled through it seems - relatively unscathed,Not like Andrew in Florida,I remember that one. I very glad you guys are ok,AND-take as much time as you need on the model-my former comments are just an expression of my happiness that you guys are nice, and sweet, and generous enough to do this thing for us guys to begin with. Also-if I can POSSIBLY start a website some time that's halfway decent-I wanna advertise for your site / put some banners up for it,and I urge EVERYBODY reading this to support SAMS3d,and spread the word out there that it's one of the best Poser Gems that your ever gonna find-you guys are terrific!

Hi cherokee As far as I know, she's still working on it. should take a while because it's kinda a sizeable project I guess-my best guess would be logically maybe a week or two,I don't know-I'm lookin forward to it to-Sharen and Mike are talented folks.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 10:28 AM

Oh yeah, Sharen and Mike will do good with it. Would be nice too if it were maybe a '59 caddy hearse. Maybe another project for Sharen and Mike...as if they don't have enough already...LOL

Mugsey ( ) posted Sun, 21 September 2003 at 11:25 AM

LOL-yep-speakin for me personally-I think I'm gonna be extremely thankful that they're doing this for me - and - not looking a gift horse in the mouth - count my blessings - cut my losses(or rather quite while I'm ahead) - count my lucky stars - and graciously collect this hearse, and ride into the sunset qiuetly like Butch Cassidy with his saddlebag full of Texas Gold,LOL. I might again one day bring yet another worthy project before Sharen and Mike for their gracious examination and consideration - but I think after this appreciable undertaking (pardon the pun) on their kind behalf - I'm gonna let'em have a little break for quite a while and not push my luck,LOL. I came out smelling like a Rose on this deal, and this is one silver bridge I don't wanna burn. Sometimes ya gotta know when you've been darn fortunate, and good grace, tact, and ettiquette says it's time to tip your hat,say your thank yous properly, and then...quietly...back away from the Poker Table,LOL.

Mugsey, you are such a cutie....I understand, and hopefully soon you will have a peak, but it is still being put together so unless you want to just look at a block...I will try later this weekend to get you all something....it is taking longer than we thought, but due to Isabel and our cable going on and off, it has been interuption after interuption. Poor Mike has lost most of it, when our power went out a couple days ago, then yesterday was determined to get most of it ready...all worked well for once and he saved it and all of a sudden our power went again. Thank God he saved it. Anyway, this morning we lost our power again, I have contacted our power company and they said that since that outage that we had in late August things are still getting back online. But don't worry, we are boucning around computers with power. Sharen
