Subject: Very inexpensive texture option for M3

For those who may not have realized it yet, textures for V3 Male map perfectly to M3. The only potential drawback is that there won't be a texture for the genital prop, but most of us render characters with at least some clothing, anyway. Being a Platinum Club member, I was able to pick up Nordic Mike for V3 this morning for only $1.99. As you can see the texture works on Michael 3.

I'm unaware of other textures for V3 Male for under $10.00, but if anyone would like to recommend some good ones, assuming they exist, I'm sure the info would be helpful to many.

They don't match perfectly but they are pretty good matches.

Looks very very good on him. That means Adrian and the vampire one from Rdna should look well-- I remember when I had a memory.:))) Oh, and stormi did a killer and I do mean killer one available here in Dangerous Liasons. You made me a happy girl. I have the UTC but it's not set up yet-- nor have I bought M3 yet-- little problem of vouchers not showing up. Emily

Hmm. Does that mean V3 could wear the M3 textures, too?

lynnJonathan ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 4:09 PM

Yes it does mean that. Thats what they call uni-mesh. I think it says all this on the Product page?

mathman ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 4:20 PM

Well I guess if they don't match perfectly, that's where UTC comes to the rescue.

I haven't seen any mismatches yet, but if you'd care to elaborate Ghostofmacbeth, it'd be interesting. A friend wrote to me this morning to say that the DAZ V3 Male Maps worked fine on M3. I've also been trying out different M2 hair props. Most seem to either fit perfectly, or can be made to with minor tweaks (e.g. lessen the x-scale.) randym77, I'd assume that whatever cross-compatibility there is would be a two-way street, but I still don't have Victoria 3 so I can't personally verify.

By the way, I'd made a typo earlier. The product is Nordic Vincent for V3. I'd said "Mike" because it was a conversion from the Nordic Mike 2 texture. I wouldn't want to confuse anyone: Nordic Mike won't fit Mike 3, Nordic Vincent will. Here's one more pic which I hope shows some better detail on the face. Looks like a perfect match to me! The only minor flaws I see are some seams which could easily be brushed out in Photoshop.

Spectre3 has some great V3Male textures here. They're priced less than $10 too :o) AND they look great on Mike3

The DAZ V3/M3 FAQ states that V3 isn't 100% compatible with M3 texmaps due to some tweaking they had to do on M3, even though M3 is compatible with V3 maps. No detailed explanation given.

Thanks, ernyoka1 and duanemoody. Where would we be without good old Spectre3? :-) Interesting about the cross-compatibility. But then, I'm not sure I'd want to see Victoria's nipples on a man, anyway! LOL

i used the Adrian texture from DNA and there were seams on the hands :-( guess i need the UTC after all

Oh, Vic's nipples aren't so bad.

This is M3 wearing V3's "Bryn" texture. He's wearing Vicky's skirt, too!

I just bought M3, and so far, I'm pleased. I like the fact that you can make him look younger and slimmer than previous versions of Mike.

I love Spectre3's Mason & Brad V3 textures and they are just $5 ea....

xoconostle ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 8:40 PM

Yeah, I just spent some time with spectre3's Mason on M3 ... looks great! randym77, you're right...M3's chest looks just fine in your render. I'd mistakenly assumed that the areolas would be too big, as IMO they were on some V3Male characters. It's going to be fun to watch the possibilities become realized. I was skeptical at first about this "unimesh" thing, but now I think it's an outstanding idea.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Thu, 11 September 2003 at 11:18 PM

The eye mapping is silghtly different on the lower lid area and the chest area will have a slight amount of stretching but for the most part they aren't very noticible. The general shapes are the same. Just sometimes moved a tiny bit. The biggest one is the eyes and that is fairly small.

My mike on the picture in the thread at the link (wow what a sentence) is also wearing Spectre3's Mason texture :o)
