Subject: Rhino and Vue

Hi, I'm thinking about getting Vue and I was wondering how well it talks to Rhino. I use Rhino as my main modeler right now, and I was wondering if Vue can import Rhino models well. Does anyone have experience in building models in Rhino and importing them into Vue? Thanks in advance! Cheers, -Dave

I don't believe I heard of any problem between Rhino and Vue. You would have to save your models as .obj files of course, as Vue does not support native Rhino files.

That's good to hear! Compatibility is an issue with just about everything I own, lol. Thanks, -Dave

Vue will support many of the export formats that Rhino has. I use both .obj and .3ds files for my work. I've switched to .obj just because I'm doing more work in Poser but when I want to import an item straight into Vue I use .3ds. 3ds files are compressed and I find them to be easier to deal with. Vue will save a .obj and .3ds at about the same size, but the original model takes up far less space. If you are worried about texturing the models for use in Vue, Ultimate Unwrap (thanks MightyPete) will map both file types.

Yeah, ditto here on Rhino, Vue and .3ds. I've never, ever had a problem with Rhino models imported into Vue as .3ds, no matter how large the file or how complex.
