THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Renderosity Galleries - Small change

Yeah, I know how you LOVE seeing that subject header, lol. Renderosity's servers were bottle-necking in the area of number of views, a quick fix was performed... The number of views that a picture has, will be displayed underneath the main picture, not the thumbnail. This will increase overall site performance. This has been a big weekend for members online, and big for uploads. Normally the majority of uploads are on Sun, Mon, Tues. This weekend has saw a big influx of uploads AND online members. I do not know yet if this fix is going to be permanent, or just for now. AgentSmith

it's better this way because it eliminates all that silly competition between people... Drac

since I use a dial up connection I often use the viewing per image to quickly check which pics I might want to look at....and no! I don't just see images that have plenty of viewings but it does help to sort the not so famous from the more than worthy...I'm not keen on the change but hey....what can you do in these changing Rendo times :)

roobol ( ) posted Sun, 14 September 2003 at 7:33 AM

I hope they go back to the old system, for I liked to see in one glance how my images were doing. Now you have to open them one by one to get the same information and I don't think that that will be of any good to your bandwith.

Ah, and I wondered whether it was Renderosity or me. I could barely or could not go here. The browser would say connecting and would stand like that for a couple of minutes.

Earlier today every time I tried to open a thread or go to free stuff or the galleries I was getting a page which said "too many connections". There were only 1034 members online at that time and there are now 1388 online and I've seen many more on at the one time, but everything is running smoothly again. Was there a problem earlier? I actually like this idea. Can increase the viewings for new users and i know its welcomed by most of them.

I agree with Roobol, liked the old system better.

I've seen it up to 2000, once, and all that happened was some real slow performance (and this on cable..;). I can usually guage a general idea of how many hits someone's got, so it wouldn't be that big a deal. The hit count is nice, but go with what you like.

Still problems with entering my gallery. Awfully slow. The forum is better. And it says 1931 user. September? :-)

Anything to speed up this site. Since I've switched from dial-up to high-speed wireless, I haven't noticed much of a difference on this site :-(

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 14 September 2003 at 3:17 PM

Overall site upgrades are also going on right now, which is why we are going through speed variations in the site right now. Still haven't heard whether or not number of viewings change will be temporary or not, I'll pass it on to you when I find out. AS

Oh, I'm fighting to do anything on Renderosity today. Btw, I found out they are doing the upgrading/work, beacause of the slowness of the site. "Number Of Viewings" has been put back to normal, will stay like that now. AS

Glad it seems to be back to normal ...for now.Wonder if cutting down the thumnails would help.Do they need to be up to 200x200.Perhaps smaller thumbs and more compression would aid in people not just viewing it and actually taking a look at the larger image. This is probably an age old topic, but something I've been thinking about.
