Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 02 7:25 pm)
I think all people end up putting themselves into their work on some level. My hand-drawn female figures (and many of the males, come to think of it) tend to have heart-shaped faces and big eyes and little, upturned noses, because that's the face I'm most familiar with: my own. (FWIW, their figures tend to look like mine used to when I was in my late teens, too). My guess is that you look more like your little sister than you're probably aware. ;) Seriously, you made a face out of your head based on female faces with which you're very, very familiar. I doubt there's anything weird or Freudian there. You said it yourself, you pulled mostly what you see in the mirror out and it ended up looking like your sister. bonni

Hmm.. I've tried to make a Poser character look like me, so far I've only succeeded (partly) with Roxanne. Usually I am not aiming for something specific and I don't think the characters I know resembles anyone in particular. If we unconsciously (sp?) model what we see, then how and why do I feel attracted towards african or asian characters? Being a so-called caucasian myself. And with NOT a lot of either african or asians around me. Only thing I do is that I normally make my characters less skinny than they are "out of the box" LOL But it's funny when you turn dials and suddenly "someone familiar" turns up :o) I once made Sylvester Stallone by mistake. Didn't save him though :o/

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

ok maybe i should clear this up a bit...it's disturbing but in a bizarre unexpected way..not in a "OMG what's wrong with me?get me to therapist" kinda way :)...it IS pretty funny to me as well,or i certainly never would have posted about it! and yes my sister and i do look quite a bit alike, there's not much doubt that we're brother and sister when we're standing next to each other...i don't think anyone would ever think otherwise.i may have a direction to take that figure in now, but it's just not at all the one i was thinking about when i started...it's not really an exact match,it's just that in order to really "un vicky" v3 you gotta make some fairly big changes...so in the absense of some reference to work from, where do you move the eyes too?the mouth? etc...as i think we're all saying, where you think it's normal, which is where they are on the face you're most familiar with, you're own!i was just a little unprepared for the gaze looking back at me from the screen to seem so very familiar...maybe i should email the pic to my brother in law!get his thoughts on it...or maybe not..this is just all getting too weird :) i did save the file, but i think i may have to start the face over the next time i open it :)
Rod, I was surprised when my Ganymede figure ended up looking like me, and didn't notice until my ex pointed out that it was me, minus about fifty pounds, and with thinner eyebrows. (Which is part of the reason he's /ex/ ^^;). But yeah, it is kinda creepy to just be working on something, and all of a sudden, you're looking at a very familiar, naked person.

I posted another thread awhile back on this very thing! Isn't it weird? (and sometimes scary...LOL). A lot of my characters look like me, only in a thinner, prettier version. Kinda like I looked when I was young and skinny ;o). Wishful thinking I guess...hehehehe. However I didn't notice any of this while I was turning dials and creating the faces. Laurie

ok so this isn't really an important post about anything...just a couple of questions,i'm just curious if this sorta stuff happens to anyone else.. so i embark on a new character for v3,now i didn't really have any specific look or person in mind, just "not vicky",and what i thought was attractive and "normal" looking if you know what i mean...i found some nice 3view photo's for the body..some morphing and some scaling and it's pretty close..pretty "unvicky" like.none of vicky's clothes fit anymore...but i think she looks pretty good,so happy with that part and still wondering what she'll eventually wear..i started in on her face so the dials they be a turning,no,yes,no a little here a little there...ok looks pretty good...time to render...and she looks umm familier.....eek!it's my little sister! i know this is just my brain pulling tricks on me..i went for "average normal" and somehow pulled mostly what i see in the mirror everyday out..to each of us,our own facial structure is "normal" right?...so female with somewhat similar features ends up looking a whole lot like my little sister..who is in a fact a very real person[ahem 'little' sis is now 27],now while i guess she's not really bad looking, she's not AT ALL what i was after...and with no clothes to wear...well!this is so very disturbing to me that it's almost funny...does this kinda thing happen to anyone else???i really need to shut poser down for a while and go look at some porn OR SOMETHING..I gotta get some new ideas and just scrub this image outta my head...anybody got a brillo pad handy?? :)
