Subject: More pose libraries than P4 can handle.

Chas ( ) posted Fri, 19 September 2003 at 8:14 PM · edited Sun, 19 January 2025 at 1:16 AM

Well, I finally did it. I finally killed my P4. Yup, as the Pose library folders were multiplying, the number of characters of the folder names being displayed was getting shorter and shorter, and now I finally cannot switch to the folders at the end of the list. Obviously, Poser has a maximum number of directories in each Library that it can deal with. Does anyone know of a workaround? Take care; Chas

  1. Upgrade to P5, which doesn't have these bugs, and allows you to create multiple Runtimes. P5's Library panel has a scrollbar, also, which makes it much easier to get to the bottom of those long lists.

So what is the limit that Poser 4 can handle? bB

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 255 folders, although you'll start to see the filename-truncating syndrome well before you reach that.

I just consolidated many of my folders. All wing textures iin one folder, all vicky's fantasy outfits in one, hair mats in another, etc...it works for now, but I think critical mass is right around the corner.

Filename-truncating syndrome? I have 318 folders in the pose library not including the ones for M3 (who I had to completely remove because he was crashing Poser). I starting doing housecleaning this week myself hoping to get M3 to work, but emptying my runtime didn't do the trick. Anyhoo, I was just wondering about Poser's limit's. Thanks for the scoop. bB

You can create a folder outside of the libraries, i.e. in your textures folder or anywhere on your computer and put little used pose folders into it. I call mine Pose Archive. The PD30 free explorer can then be used to view them. It is just a matter of copying and pasting them back into the pose folder when wanted. pboost is good if you can get the hang of it.

er, 255 per library type, ie, 255 pose folder, 255 figure folders, etc. Pboooost is the answer. You have two capabilities with that. You can consolidate some of your library items into one folder and ditch the empty one, or you can set up different banks (depending on how you set up your OS). You can go to Pose library for example and switch between a mat bank and a pose bank. P5 has the ability to link to your P4 library if you don't want to reinstall everyting. P5 also has sub directories that P4 does not do without Pbooost. Another observation is that DAZ and some others install two folders, one for P4 one for PPP. Delet P4 if you have PPP and vise versa. Backup before deleting.

You can put some in your camera file. Change the pz2 to a cm2. Bet you don't have much in your camera folder.
