This is my newest work in progress and would like some advice and critiques. I made the can in Rhino. The labeling in Bryce 4 with some touchups in Photoshop. I am going for a realistic look.

The structure looks great. Make your label cylinder smaller, if you look at the reflection you can see the seam. Is the bevel at the bottom of the can that tall?(we don't drink soda here at home)Nothing to cmpare it to. Looks good so far.

Ockham's razor- It's that simple

Proportionally it looks like it might be just a hair short...maybe try stretching its height a weeee bit. Also the flip tab looks like it might be a little to simple a shape...I'd have to look at a can to check. Other than that I'd say that with a little bit of level adjustment in photoshop it would look great. Excellent stuff!!!

you are off to a good start Chocoborob, I agree with what the others have said....and maybe it needs to be a lil bit more shiny?

I knew that the label needed to be a touch smaller. The pop top is a scan of a real one then turned into a terrain. Maybe I will tweak that a bit. My biggest hang up is getting the material to have that true shine to it. It just doesn't have that "crisp" look. I have been learning these programs by trial and error and asking questions in these forums. Using the material editor can get frustrating. So I appreciate every bit of advice I can get. Keep 'em coming.

I think, the bottom of the can , should be flatter, not rounded. so that its sitting, not ready to roll over.

You can make it really shiny, but there is nothing to reflect off of it. Try creating a 2d plane behind the camera with some interesting lights and darks. Or better yet, you could make a big sphere and map a scene to it. If you do a premium render with a large lens diameter focused on the can the background will blur out. If you put something interesting to reflect off the can it will interest the viewer. There was a whole portion of the advertising industry in the 70s obsessed with subliminal suggestion. They used to hide pictures of naked women in the reflections of ice cubes because more teenage boys would buy a brand of beer because of it. If you want to sell this can of coke put photos of several people reaching for it off camera to reflect off it. Another choice would be an enjoyable place (mountains, seashore, etc. that everyone would enjoy being at) It's like you're saying, " drink Diet Coke and go to Disneyworld". Since the can is silver I'd use a B&W image so that the reflection doesn't stick out too much and overwhelm the label. If you want to go overboard most ads show condensation on the can. "look at the beads of water. Our drink is really cold!" You could make a couple of hundred small spheres textured like water to look like dew forming on the can surface.

Sorry, what I said is hard to follow. Check out this long thread. It has some great ideas about fake HDRI.
