I just got Vue4., but it seems I'm screwede out of my $200. First the CDE was defective, then they sent me a replacement. when i try to install it it refuses, claiming i have "insufficient administrator something-or-other. I tried on all 4 of my computers (I have administrastive priveleges on all 4 of them). I'm getting tired of this. I PAID FOR IT SO WHY THE F*** WON'T THEY GIVE ME A WORKING COPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there some way to force it to install, or maybe open the installer manually and do it that way? Or maybe a crack for the demo to use that instead. I would like to be able to use it, but they seem to be out of working CDs and only have these defective ones. If I can't make it work, how dom I go about getting a refund?

Have you tried tech support at E-on? If you to to the Tech Support area or the feedback area at E-on, you can post a question or a problem. They are usually very good about getting back to you fairly quickly. I've installed and reinstalled my Vue 4 several times due to disk reformatting and moving stuff around, and never had that problem. I have never heard of an application telling you you have insufficient administrator privileges, that's always from the OS security policy, in my experience. What OS are you using?

I'm using XP Home on all 4 of my computers. e-on has a patch that supposedly fixes it, bit it doesn't work, and they suggest an alternate way to install it, but that doesn't work either. I have an unusually extreme case of bipolar disorder and this is really setting it off. I'm barely able to control myself. If I can't come up with a solution soon, I may have to give up and get a refund.

Have you tried logging on as administrator? I'm also using XP home, and I know you don't want to hear it, but I've never had a problem installing any software. Vue has been installed and unstalled a few times and went ok. Like Djeser suggested, contact Eon support.

I only have an administrator account, no others. I've already checked the account properties and it says I should be able to install software. I installed a couple other things (including the Vue demo) and they installed with no problem. The probleem is definitely with Vue. They seem to have stuck me with a defective CD. For the second time. If I can find a crack for the demo, then I willo still be able to use it. Not what I paid for, but it's better than nothing.

If you have an anti-virus program, disable it and try installing Vue again. :) Irene

Yes, kill the AV if you haven't - I didn't get an error message, but mine stopped me from instaling under XP.

You won't find any cracks here. We're all legit users. Besides, if it won't install from a cd what makes you think a crack, hack, or whatever on a demo version will work any better. It's the same program and installation process minus the cd. Contact E-on's tech support. If they've replaced a defective cd already and you are still getting the same error upon attempting to install the program then chances are it has nothing to do with a defective cd. Try contacting Microsoft tech support. Ron

Now it's returning a "cyclic redundancy error". I give up. >>We're all legit users<< Implying that I'm not? I paid for tbe goddamn thing anjd it doesn't work. There is nothing wrong with using "questionable" means to get a replacement for something i PAID FOR ABD REGISTEED I paid a lot of money that I can't afford to lose. I have the right to use3 whatever means I have access to to get what I paid for. >>then chances are it has nothing to do with a defective cd.<< IOW, all four of my computers have the same defect? The fact is that I PAID FOR THIS AND IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!

I was able to copy a friend's CD (using my registered and paid-for serial) and it worked. Hers is an earlier edition (the install screen was dark blue instead of light blue and the dialogues looked a bit different), so the problem is probably with the latest version. I used the compact install, then copied all the items, etc from my CD. (My CD drive can read it fine, it just won't install). Not what I'd rather do, but at least it works, so I'm not screwed out of all that cash...)

Question. Are you using CD drives, or combo DVDCD drives in the install attempts? The reason I ask is that combo drives, particularly if they are the first ones or the current bargain bin items, have firmware issues that have nothing whatsoever to do with the CD or the OS. It's on the ROM inside the drive itself, and very, very few of them permit you to update your firmware. One of E-on's anti-piracy methods involves the installer, and post install stabilization (this is so people who rip a CD image mess up, and get what seems to be a very nice image...only it crashes constantly with memory errors), and it is rather sensitive of media drives that are older, or not up to a certain standard. If this is the case, try the install through a standard CR reader, or a CDRW drive. And the point about the AV software also includes the built in pseudo-firewall that XP ships with. As for that cyclic redundancy error, if you are comfortable doing so, run regedit and delete every key you find in there regarding Vue. Doing an install over a partial install can have some odd effects, and that is one of them. As for the administator priveleges. Have you checked your system for any 'gifts' from the net? Changing the priveleges flag without changing the status display is an old script kiddie trick, and if the machines are on the same network, they could all have been infected. Plus the fact is that XP Home is not as robust as Pro is....and certainly not as robust as Win2k Pro. If this was an upgrade install over an older OS, then it is possible that XP is being finicky. For my money, though, I would bet on the actual issue being in the drives themselves. Those CD's get made by lot, and if there was a bad lot, there would have been a replacement from outside that lot number.

Yeah, I have a cd-dvd combo drive. I'll ask some of the CS/IST proffessors and instructors at school about this on Monday. I hope it is something easy to fix. (I'm only a 3rd semester IST student so I'm not yet an expert). Also, is there a graphics issue with Vue? On my desktops, it keeps rebooting and giving some video driver error message (but it runs fine on my laptop ) - all 4 computers are winXP Home. The 3 desktops are Compaq Presarios and the laptop is an IBM Thinkpad). But at least I managed to get it to run on the Laptop, so I can start having fun playing with my new toy... :)

There are issues with Open GL and Vue4....mainly dependant on what video card you have, and what drivers. The easiest way to check is to go into the options and disable (a)OpenGL usage, or (b)the screen redraw thread. Either can give you a fit, depending on the OS, hardware, drivers, and the imp of the perverse. The reboots do sound like OpenGL conflict, though. Oh, and have fun!

Come to think of it there have been a few games that I've bought in the past that would work on some of the drives I had at the time. Research showed that certain protection systems and certain drives weren't compatible. Try taliking to E-on again and askiing them if they have one of the older cd versions that seem to work on your computer. Definitely look into whether there is a new firmware for your particular drives. Some are updatable and some are not. Depends on the manufacturer. Here's a link a firmware update page. Ron
