Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 12:36 pm)
Yeah, go for it! :) Another thought, do you have a CD burner? What I would do is just copy my customised files to a CD with the same directory structure, Then delete every thing and do a clean reinstall of the program. (dont forget to re-patch). Now when you use it just copy back the files you want. If you are like me I only use 10% (or even less) of the total. Regards PhilC
this is exactly how I have aquired so many files over the years, my biggest problems come with remembering what obj files go with what. The my own custom ones I don't have a problem with I keep them in order, but I do have problems remember which files go with what characters and props that I have down loaded since 96 or 97 I forget when i got poser. While Many of these could easily be redownloaded (at least the ones that are still available) or taken from my burned storage cd's I simply don't have the time to go throught 55,000 zips files on countless cd's. for those that think that must be almost all the 3d related files that have been available for download over the last several years, it is. Also one other question, I have never run into the problem is there a maximum number of directories poser can have in a category, and is there a max number files per directory? I keep loading new files, but I think it is dropping old ones, or I might be just not able to find them.
A helpfull tool for clean-up or burning cd's is YARP's programm called P3DO (Poser Explorer). It works like ThumbnailPlus and shows all files in explorer-style. But thats not the clue, it shows also the RSR- and all Image-Files as thumbnails. There is also a version available which you can burn on your cd-backup. This version runs from the cd. I think it was P3DO1.26 Thats a really helpfull tool, with which it's easy to organice your poser-directories. SHARKEY
I could probably save 3 or 4 hundred megs just by dumping all of the P3 nude female textures. I wish some programming wiz would come up with a utility that would automatically convert P3 nude female textures into P4 nude female textures. (you know, slice and dice, rearrange, squash and stretch) Probably never happen, but it would be awfully nice.
I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!
when moving mass quantities of info from one machine to another i usually just stick hard drive into other machine and copy from there ... really not much trouble and its FAST i can swap HD's in about 10 min... in fact i have several older drives laying around crammed full of cool stuff that i may not have kept otherwise , when someone mentions updating a drive, i jump in and say... HEY CAN I HAVE THAT....lol... its free storage ... most people just toss em out or stickem in a closet anyway...i have a CDR which is a cheap method of storage... but it isnt free... and you cant cram gig's of info on CD's without many hrs of work....
Y'all have a great day.
I also bought that emachine at Sam's Club. I couldn't believe the deal. That is until five days later when I stop at Best Buy. They had an emachine there that had DVD instead of CD, 533MHz instead of 500MHz, 15Gig HD instead of 4.3Gig HD, 64Meg of RAM instead of 32Meg of RAM, nicer keyboard, and free upgrade to Windows Millinium Edition when available (I pay 8.95 for shipping) all for $400. It didn't come with the monitor but 15" is way too small anyway, and they had a 17" emachine monitor for $125 after rebate. Of course I returned the one to Sam's Club and picked up the Best Buy one on the way home!

is there a utility that will help me clean up my poser directory, currently with all the texture maps and obj's but not including the saved poser files is about 3 gigs. I am not even sure what goes with what anymore. especially textures for differnt models (the texture folder along is 300 megs). Also I am considdering a new machine just for poser and bryce in pre-render. This is whatI am considdering. I can get a new 500 mhz eMachines for with 15" monitor and windows 2000 for $399 from Sam's Club. I will swap out the puny hardrive for a 64 gig and put in sufficient ram (64 meg) and network it to the rest of my computers. Total cost about $700 Any thoughts. This will be soley bryce poser pre render machine.
