Hey Posermaniacs, just want to know what you think about that: http://www.curiouslabs.com/press_7_24b.html Is this what the PoserCommunity wants to have?

Jim Burton ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 7:51 AM

Nitrane- I don't see any information about 4.0.3, just about Poser Pro Pack, which looks like an add-in for Poser 4. Poser 4.0.3 would be, I assume, another free bug fix- the convention is that the first digit is a major upgrade (Poser 5!), which you have to buy, the first decimal is a minor upgrade (Poser 4.1) which may be free (mostly is if .1, mostly you buy if .5), and the second decimal is a bug fix (4.0.3) which would normally be free. Pro Pack looks good though, but we need more information!

The 4.03 update is on the updates page. They don't have a Mac version yet. It's a auto update and it's 11megs! Yikes! at my blazing 24000bps connection speed, that shoult take, oh lets see about 2 years to download!!! Can't wait for a cable modem!!

The Flash add ins alone make it worth the money. If it can exceed the functionality of Swift3D and Vecta3D (which are both rather lousy).

Hmm... THis could potentially be the biggest development to hit the Flash animation community ever... And that's a community with some major finance and inertia behind it. Meaning the Flash export function alone could make Poser VERY big if they publicize it right.

The Pro pack is just what the doctor ordered... Better integration with 3ds max, and MULTIPLE VIEWPORTS!!! (HIP HIP HURRAH!!!!) Plus better 3d acceleration. Dear God, they finally listened... THUD! <------ Kyrin faints.

Oh, by the way, is there any difference between the 4.0.2 and the 4.0.3 update? It seems that they just changed the brand... is that true?

ARADTech ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 1:53 PM

Me like, would have been cool to have some better Bryce integration as well , but can't have it all, I am most happy with the Flash export feature ;-) Chris

WarriorDL ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 2:28 PM

All the 4.0.3 available for DL does is change the Metacreations info over to Curious Labs stuff. The rest is the same as the 4.0.2 patch.

PJF ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 3:20 PM

In that case I'll wait for my cable modem. :-)

arcady ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 3:34 PM

So can we install 4.0.3 if we previously installed 4.0.2 by hand and not with an auto installer? I remember that with 4.0.2 you had to stick to using the manual method if you'd used it before or so they claim.

You need to download the 11 meg file, and then read the 'readme' file that is displayed after you run the autoloader. That'll tell you, LOL. (joke)

One change: They updated all the weblinks

After installing the 4.03 updater, Poser4 won't start saying I'm missing a required .DLL "WS2_32.DLL". Is this a Win98/Win2K thing? Yeah, I'm a Dino' still using WIN95. Is there anywhere I can get a copy of this .dll? -Jeff H.

JeffH ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 6:03 PM

Okay I found the update at Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wuadmintools/s_wunetworkingtools/w95sockets2/default.asp -Jeff H.

csommer ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 8:56 PM

With the new 4.03 patch applied, when Poser is run, Norton Internet Security intercepts the poser.exe file constantly stating that it is trying to access the internet. WS2_32.dll is the winsocket dll is it not? ..........What's this all about!!!

JeffH ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 10:02 PM

Yeah, it's the winsock alright. Not sure what that's all about, but maybe you should run Poser when you're not online. -JH.

nitreug ( ) posted Thu, 27 July 2000 at 11:00 PM

I am not really sure but it is for W-95. I just download 4.0.3 but too sure if I should install it because like csommer, i have Norton Internet Security because of my DSL line. It does not matter if you have a slow line because it loads at only 2k/sec even if i have a dsl line Claude

csommer ( ) posted Fri, 28 July 2000 at 9:08 PM

This does occur when I'm not online....had to configure a firewall rule to stop it. doesn't seem kosher to me.

kyrin ( ) posted Fri, 28 July 2000 at 9:20 PM

It is more than likely a copy protection thing. A lot of companies are doing that now. The program sends it's IP, username and reg info to curious... at least that is my assumption. A rather underhanded way of tracking things if you ask me. Didn't Intel get slammed for doing basically this same thing?
