I think Renderosity would be well served by a Product Review section, where they review select products from the Marketplace, and perhaps even Daz or other places. The reviews would be of software and digital content. Users could submit reviews, after carefully read by the Admin, and if they are thoughtful. Perhaps R'osity could have a review team set-up. One sticky situation, however, could be if the product reviewed is terrible, and its in the Marketplace. That could be real embarassing for the vendor, etc. Ben

You mean the 'tested' products go thru a panel of reviewers?

Yes, akin to reviews games get in magazines like Electronic Gaming Magazine, with scores and everything.

I don't know if the merchants would want negative reviews of their products either. In all fairness, I don't think it is just the administrators who might have reservations about this. I also wouldn't want the reviewers to be made up only of people who are traditionally naysayers and never find anything good to say about anything. If we had reviews (and I think that's actually a good idea), you'd want it to be balanced. That's hard to achieve.

I guess the answer would be a review crew independant of R'osity, yet reviewing for them. In any case, I guess it is a good, yet not feasible for many reasons. But it sure would be a popular 3D website (i.e. there is a market for it, critical depth is filling it, but I would like more reviews and an across the board critical look, with scores, i.e. 1 - 10, with .5 increments allowed! Well, 'Rosity could always hire me, Dialyn, and Illusions to be the review board....nah...scratch that..we'd be fired before we got started good ~lol~ Seriously tho, a panel of fair and honest reviewers would be, like Dialyn and Illusions stated above hard to come by, but it would be needed to work.

I think a technical review would work, one that is not biased by the artistic side.

Things like:
Polygon Count
Material and Model Breakdown
MAT Poses Included? (for Poser)
Textures in BUM or JPG (for Poser)
Any strangeness in the model (static or when posed)
Installation issues
Instructions Included?

I know the testers catch some of this, but some of these things aren't really wrong, just inconvenient for some. This is especially true in models that are not Poser, but may be used in Poser. For instance, the Daz Great Hall, has a roomful of props, separate ones that can be placed in that or some other scene. However, I've bought models here where that wasn't an option, that all the props were locked into the model, and extracting requires uvmapping and a modeling program. So it would be helpful to know things like this. Polygon count is also good because of the memory and limits to Poser for such models. Knowing what materials will help in knowing what can and cannot be done under the current mapping structure as far as applying one's own textures.

So in these cases, I could see having a technical review. Due to the artistic differences of all artists and their personal bias, artistic reviews would be a nightmare. After all, some people love the Millenium Cat and some people don't. And who's to say what would fit best in your scene (even if it requires a little work). I'd just like to know how much work it is before I decide to buy or not buy it, not find out when a refund is not possible.
