Subject: Am I pushing my luck with this render?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 4:54 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 2:35 AM

I'm building a pic which contains the following: 69 spotlights, 1 infinite light, 3 Mike 2's, 2 V 2's, 1 V3, A few articulate props, clothes and hair for the models, several other props, plus walls, ceilings and floors. I intend to render at 2048 x 1536 I'm using P4PP on a PC with 1GB RAM. What do you reckon my chances of success are?

Computer heating up Sam? lol Hey cool image :) drop down a thread if you want to know more. Now I think this guy might eat all your memory though, I hope to make a lower rez one later on.Gotta say I really like that atv you got walking in the background with the marines where did you get it? Did you make that?

I have 4 of the figures with textures and hair, 2 of the articulate props, all the walls, ceilings, floors and lights so far. Rendering at 1024 x 768 is taking about 20 minutes. Not too shabby, I think. :)

I used the layer system in Vue. I wanted more items in the scene but Vue kept crashing, so that all she wrote

You can do it. I've had a total of 9 fully dressed characters and a loaded set on a system slower than yours and pulled it off with one render. Yer gonna share it when done, right?

...Are you pressing your luck? Damn, man, my computer melted down just downloading your DESCRIPTION of what you were doing! Scarab

Owww... My computer just came alive and said if I ever did anything like that, it'd b*tch-slap me. If you've got PLENTY of swap file space (continuous), you should be able to. The only thing that worries me is the number of spot lights. 69? Why?

lalverson ( ) posted Thu, 25 September 2003 at 7:59 PM

You should be able to do it if the textures aren't to huge

CryptoPooka, yes, of course I'll share it. If this one works, it goes up in my gallery. In fact, it's going in my gallery no matter how I achieve it. I'd love to create this one with no postwork if possible, but it's no big deal if I can't. pdxjims, I have a 4GB swap file. The reason for the lights is as follows... The scene is indoors, and the lighting is from Platypus 3D's Decotech set. I used 6 light props, each of which has 3 bulbs. So that's 6 x 3 = 18. Each one of those has to glow realistically, so another 18 are needed to shine onto the props. Then, each one has to have a simulated "ambience", so each prop has 4 lights around it. That's another 24. Finally, there are 9 "off camera" lights, which replicate the ambient light from further away in the scene. Oh yeah, and one low intensity infinite light to provide a little general ambience.

Oneshot where did you get that atv walker? Is it posable? Did you make it? Can I get one? :)

That's SanctumArt's Howler mecha from the Marketplace, versions available for Poser, Lightwave, and 3DS Max.
