C3's UV editor has similarities to UVmapper. Try the following. 1.create your vertex object to be mapped . Make it a simple cube to start. 2. click cube, then click "uvmapping" tab in the properties tray 3. Change "custom" mapping to box mapping(leave at default) 4. Now click the "uv editor" button beside the mapping mode 5.The UV editor screen appears. Under the "projection tab" choose "box" mode and then select one of the three options that appear for box mode. The one farthest right showing all sides of the box is the one to click , then click apply. 6. The editor window should change to reflect that the mapping of your object has changed. It should make more sense to look at now. 7.Now under the "display" tab you can "export" the new uv map as a jpeg. 8.Save your carrara file then open your image edit program and edit your uvmap you just exported( add colors etc.) Save this new texture map. 9.Reopen carrara file and apply saved texture map to your model . 10. In the uv editor you can show the texture map that is on your model . Hope this helps Regards Mike Moir
One of the great things about the UV mapper in C3 is that you can select individual or groups of polys in the 3D window and then move them about or remap them in the 2D window. (Try the 'detach polys' button!) Selecting the whole lot first and then resizing smaller gives you room to move the bits you want to concetrate on. A couple of quirks in the full version: if you've a set of vertices selected that you want to move/scale then you have to position the mouse over a vertex in order to carry out the manoeuvre. And if you want to resize in proportion using the shift key, start the resize and then press shift - pressing shift at the start means a vertex gets left behind.

I did a lot of mapping in C2 with UVMapper and had good results but the UV editor in C3 has got me completely dumbfounded. Can someone suggest a resource or thought process that might get me going. I RTFM and am still missing someting basic :-( I'm sorry if this is vauge: I don't even understand whats going on well enough to ask an intelligent question! Thanks in advance... Hopefully Ed
