Ok, I'm finally getting jackcoggins.com up and running. But I need suggestions for layout and navigation from those who have sites. On the images pages, which would be better: a)color, b/w, abstract, etc., each on seperate gallery page: b)all together on one page,: c)or mixed together limited number of pics (i.e. 10 or 12) to a page? I have visited several sites and can't make up my mind. I'm also contemplating just having images on a slide show. I need some input as to what would be most pleasing for the visitor? I'm so confused.... Jack

Jack, Some of my favorites are of course my own, www.zhounder.com (I broke from the basic black only for a change of pace). and here are a few others I like... http://www.kruegerphoto.com/index.html http://www.execulink.com/~joris/ http://www.kenmarcus.com/index.html Keep in mind that most of these are sites featuring the human form. Yeah, nudes. But the layout will apply to any format you display. Magick Michael

Hi Jack! concernig the usability: i think the more pictures you will upload, the more you need to put them into different categories. to limit the number of pics per page will make it faster to load. But in the end its a matter of how you want the visitor to experience your work. what is important about it, what are your favorites? some suggestions: http://www.philipglaser.com/home.html?fm=1 (Flash) http://www.stefanmariarother.com/english/portfolio.htm http://www.jakobsen-picture-work.de/index1.html http://www.photographie.de/galerie/galerie_start.cfm and my own: www.kelox.net/kopf4 (Flash) Sascha

I've always preferred when a site gives you a gallery of thumbnails that link to the larger image, much the way renderosity does. Sites that have slideshows or galleries of large images can really test the patience of anyone with a 56k such as myself, and I'll almost never want to go through every single image on a person's site. And make sure you know how to properly compress an image into an effecient jpg file! And last but not least, and I only say this because I don't know what your experience level is, do not upload any images that are larger than they will be on the web page, meaning that you should not use any html that will rescale your image for you rather than do it in photoshop or whatever program you might use. I've seen pages where people would take images that were like 800x600 and had them displayed at about 200x150. Some people do this for their thumbnail pages. The problem with this is the rescaled image takes just as long to load as the full size one, and images rescaled using html look god awful. If you've posted anything in renderosity galleries, however, you should already be familiar with the proper way of making thumbnails.
