Hello! I'm using Vue 4 with the 4.2 Beta upgrade. My machine is a "Home Grown" as follows: The motherboard is the Asus P4B533 with 1 Gig of Ram, Video card is the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb, large hard drive etc. What are the benefits of using OpenGL with Vue? Is used mainly for the rendering or are there other benefits? Part of why I am asking is when I tried to use it Vue slowed down considerably for me and then I started having lock ups with it. I did contact E-on and have been working with Steve (Thanks!), but not sure if this is worth the extra effort. I have Win XP Home and made sure that it is completely up-to-date along with my video drivers and bios.

As far as I'm aware, the openGL only "improves" the display of Vue when your working on the image - it doesn't help the render at all. I use a P4 2.8GHz with 1 Gig Ram and Geforce 4200ti 128MB card - major problems with openGL; I only use it for fine placement of objects, if at all. 4.2 patch totally locked up Vue, so went back to 4.12.

Yep its just for editing. I have similar setup to ninandji, though with 1.5ddr ram and Gef 255ddr and it crawls with opengl on, this in Vue pro. It is probably the card drivers though. If you are serious about using it you really need a workstation quality card I think. I just disable open gl and work in wireframes etc. :)

I never got Vue D'Esprit to work with OpenGL -- However, I've been playing with Vue Pro and the Open GL works!!! I'm using a 64 meg ATI dual display card and speed is pretty good. My recommendation is not to use the open GL if it is causing problems. It would actually lock Windows XP up during crashes with Vue D'esprit. . . .

Okay, cool. Thanks for all the feedback. FattyB - I'm actually considering building a second machine more designed for this kind of work and going with a better quality card. I was looking at the Fire GL series, but am open to suggestions.

Having just received my Vue 4 Pro, I asked e-on what graphics cards they recommend and they said that any Quadro based card was a good choice - I checked them out but the prices are very high (average 2000):( I am now looking at the top-of-the-range Asus card (400) but I don't want to make the wrong choice so I'm holding back until I'm sure it will work ok. Some time ago I bought the Oxygen GVX1 (I don't think they make it any more) it was loads of money and quite frankly it was dissappointing to say the least. The point that I'm making here is that the money you spend does not alway's mean you are getting a good card. Let me know if you find a good card :)

If/when I put the unit together (probably not until after the holidays), I will let you know which card I choose and how well it works.
