Subject: Getting Rendered Thumbnails when Saving Characters

jmwiit ( ) posted Fri, 28 July 2000 at 10:56 PM ยท edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 12:23 PM

When I saved a few characters that I had created in Poser 4.0, I got fully rendered pictures. This was particularly helpful when parts (like hair) involve transparency maps. After a total crash, I reinstalled Poser, and took the opportunity to install the 4.02 patch. Now when I save a character, i get the unrendered thumbnail; all my characters look bald. Is there any trick that will let me get fully rendered thumbnail icons in the character windows?

The patch let's you do that?? neat... do you render first or what? usually the best I get is the textured... Wizzard

Render the figure/scene, select Display>paste onto background. Then move the figure out of the scene (by moving the camera - I use the strange upright hands but you can use the dials as well. Then just add figure/pose to the right menu/folder and voila. My version generates a nasty background grid, but who's fussy after using Poser? Moving the camera view means that when you reload the figure/pose etc., it loads in its original position. Not in the manual. x.

Neat.... I'll have to try that.... as I tend to apply transparancies to all the hair.. mapped or not.. so everyone looks bald ) Thanx Oliver Wizzard

Wizzard, thanks for the polite reply. Now on your travels if you know why, and how to fix, RDS5 screws up Poser .obj files so that the seams of the texture get screwed up I'd like to hear, mon amigo.

RDS5 will import the Poser scene as a Poser scene (.pz3 file), no need to export to .obj first. The textures are all stored and can be changed in the properties window. There's a trick to it, but you get perfect texturing. Bear in mind that the whole .pz3 file comes in, so if there is anything you want separately, import it separately. Thorne =};-}>

Errrrmmmm.... What Thorne said.. it's a bit tricky but can be done... also try to get the updates if you can... there was a fix for the obj importing... etc.. I found that t Poser 4 afore the patch tended to do some nasty things to the exported figures... ) Wizzard

Oliver S. Thanks for your tip. I tried it, and it works great. I found that the thumbnails look best when rednedred against the default gray background. Bye-bye baldies! - Jim

Oliver, Worked slick as a treat... Thanks muchly... Let's see.. RDS 5.5 has a bettre importer than 5 or earlier.. I thing you can hit the site and get an update. But it appeared that it was mainly the Poser export that was causing probs... from personal experiance... You might try posting in the Carrara/Raydream forum... there's scads of people that know a lot more than I... ) Cheers, Wizzard
