Subject: Haze in P5, hidden feature or useful bug?

Torulf ( ) posted Fri, 03 October 2003 at 7:17 PM ยท edited Fri, 20 December 2024 at 3:12 PM

I used Depth cueing in P5 then I render an image with large deep. The result showed a haze f/x I no before seen in poser. In manual says Depth cueing that not affect render output. But I got the effect in booth Firefly and P4 render but not with out Depth cueing. Is this a hidden feature, a useful bug or a new feature from some service pack?

What SR do you have installed? Can you provide an image which shows this effect (better still: show us an image with and without the effect!) Willy

If you have the background color set to the default color, then it will seem like haze. Try it with the background color set to black. It's not a bug. :)

Please show the image before and after. Also show (screenshot) the Firefly and P4 settings that you used.

This is exactly how depth cuing is supposed to work. It has been a feature since P4 (at least) and does still work with the P4 renderer in P5. In this respect, the manual is incorrect where it says that says that it shouldn't work in renders. Unlike you, I can't get it to work in Firefly, but (due partly to popular demand), depth cuing settings were added to the atmosphere node in the material room in one of the SRs. Bill

Here are two renders in P4 mood. The first one have Depth cueing. The color of haze are afekted by the bacgrund color but I have test to use DNA-skydome and I gett the haze efect.

Depth cuing makes objects transparent the farther "back" they go. So if your background is a gradient, like the post above, it'll look like "haze".

If it only makes objects transparent the back side of the objet may be visible and I cant see that.

My bad! I was thinking of the P4 DepthCue. Sorry. Here's the FireFly DepthCue.

For me it works even without the atmosphere control. I put on DepthCue in the Display menu and use P4 render.

The one in the atmospere control is just for the FireFly Renderer. The one in the Display menu is just for the P4 Renderer. In the P4 one you control the effect color by the back ground color, wher in the FireFly you can have whatever backgroud color you want and set the Depthcue color in the controls.
