Subject: Thumbnail nudity.

We are supposed to have the choice here whether to view nudity in the galleries or not, right? Sure we do. Thats why the checkbox is on your profile page. So why do I see more and more nudity in the gallery thumbs? And I don't mean a teaser thumb showing a bit of flesh. Full frontal nudity is supposed to be OPTIONAL viewing around here. Can't the admins do anything about it? Are there no gallery moderators? It'd be easy enough to delete the offensive images I'm sure. Until such time as that comes to pass however maybe FrankFunk would like to explain his 'artwork' for the benefit of my 4 year-old neice who was standing behind my chair looking at pictures earlier. She WAS sitting on my knee until she saw something that really upset her. I don't feel ready to explain certain things to her yet. It should be easy enough for the artist though. She only had two questions. 1. Why does that man have no clothes on? 2. What is that thing? Over to you Frank.

yea just be sure the nudity thing is clicked

Replicant ( ) posted Sun, 05 October 2003 at 7:30 AM

No grudge. In fact technically Franks images are very good. I just don't see the need for full-frontal thumbnails in the galleries. It wasn't Franks fault my niece got an eyeful. It was mine. The button should have been checked in my profile. However by the time I realised it wasn't it was too late. Why is it necessary to present an image with a full-frontal thumb? I've always preferred a subtle hint to a direct assault.

cool..glad you got that settled

HI Replicant - I can assure you that the moderators check the galleries on a daily basis - and that the Nudity button is engaged on ALL the images that may have even a small amount of nudity [as in see-through clothing). However, due to the mass amount of Poser Postings it is impossible to catch ALL the images the moment they are uploaded, to make sure that members have engaged the nudity button. I must say - FrankFunk, Always engages the nude button when he uploads images with nudity. At the moment, there is nothing in the TOS pertaining to what a member can feature in a thumb, as long as the nudity button is engaged. However, I shall be sure to bring your thoughts on this subject up to the TOS review board. ladynimue

But wouldn't it have been worse, if Frank's thumbnail was just of the face, say? You might have clicked on it, and revealed the pic at full size to your niece.

yeah..it's more of an issue for those of us who come here at Work, which takes a dim view of exposed genetalia..at least where I am. I've chalked it up to folks either not knowing, or not caring, about the nudity flag. I have seen a lot more in the galleries of late. I get around it by viewing galleries by package (3d max, Bryce, etc), and skipping on Poser 'till I get home.

  1. Why does that man have no clothes on? "Maybe he was going to take a shower. Or maybe someone has stolen them." 2. What is that thing? "This is how God have chosen to make the men and women different. You are too young to understand that now, but one day you will, and until then, you have to accept and respect this fact" Every honest question has an honest answer. The question of the children are honest and innocent and they deserve honest and innocent answers. There is no malice in the questions made by children and if we are not able to reply to them naturally, it's because of our own malice, not someone else's. That is to be said in all fairness. In front of children, we must forget all distortions caused to us by centuries of sick culture, and get back to their level of innocence. I agree it's not always easy but we must learn that. Else we will transmit to them the same distortions we were unfortunately (more or less) imposed by a sick culture. Having said that, I agree completely with you on the fact that it's not necessary to show nudity on a thumbnail. But from there, to ask for deletion of simple nude images, without porn in them, it is a too big step. Let's hope that all artists have enough sensibility to understand the problem, and where they don't get to understand, the moderators can fix. But please, no censorship act. - Orio

I'd never ask for deletion of any image simply on grounds of nudity, Orio. Theres a few in my own gallery. My only beef is with the thumbnails.

ok- and here is another point that those who would change the world to fit a narrow viewpoint (ie: not check the nudity button) My thumbs have nudity, I make pinups A while back listening to some of the long time big boys here- they made the point, and I have to agree, that they themselfs DO NOT EVER view pics that don't show the whole picture in the thumb. It is a myth that a croped thumb gets more hits- but has been spread around for years! The number of images are to high and far to often of to low a quality to view everyones, especially on dial up.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sun, 05 October 2003 at 4:28 PM

Nudity on thumbnails has been a problem for me, that is do I or don't I. I just put a teaser for a thumb, so as not to offend anyone, with nudity flag checked. If people don't want to veiw the teaser, fine, my gallery is not big enough to worry about. I do try to use a full pic on the rest of my thumbs or enough to give a good idea what the pic is. I'm on a slow dial up, so I can relate and guilty of skipping thumbs.

tom_b ( ) posted Sun, 05 October 2003 at 5:23 PM

Ah what the heck. Why cant ppl just write the word Nudity on the thumbnail covering any would be areas. Personally, I dislike seeing any male nude even if its art ;)

Sorry folks but I find it hard to believe that in this "enlightened" 21st century we are discussing the pros and cons of nudity in Art...! What's next then? "Burn the sinners"?

#3 should be "NO" if you don't want to see nudity. Please use this option if you do not want to see nudity. Or if you don't want your children, Boss or co-workers to see it. Don't expect the rest of us to do what you're responsible for doing, you were given this option for a reason! Please don't infring on our rights because you forgot or are to lazy to set the option. Thank You!

Next thing you non-nudity in thumbnail people will want is a Rated G/PG site. Sorry, but, if ya don't like the nudity, use the filter. I'll CONTINUE to check Nudity on EVERY Image... & I'll CONTINUE to do as damn near to PROVOCATIVE thumbnails as I CAN. Thanks for playing tho. Thomas

So what's the deal with the Poser Hot 20 and the message on several pics that sez "Image not shown due to nudity". Has there been a change to the TOS? It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the filters.

Log out and log back in, or clear your cache. It's a Renderosity burp...not a change to the TOS. See thread. The pictures are still there.
