Subject: Can't open PS 5.5 without losing cursor

Help. Does anyone know what is causing this? I have windows 98, and logitech trackball. I have to reboot to get cursor back. Thank you. Bee

I am on a Mac,but maybe alloting more memory to PS.

Spanfarkle, I am not sure what you mean by that. Alloting more memory to one program? I have 128meg ram, 16 meg voodoo banshee, 20 gig harddrive. It worked for 2 days, then started doing this. I can not use PS now, however, if I open Image Ready, the cursor stays in it. When I open PS, it is the only thing I have running. Thanks Bee

Well, on a Mac, you select the app. icon, chose get info, and then are able to alot how much memory the particular app can have. Once I needed to alot over 350 megs of virtual memory to render an animation in Poser. You can check it out at my experimental web site bullmoose.50megs.com.Maybe PS is chewing up a lot of memory, so that your system loses out and can't keep the cursor on screen.Like I said, I am on a iMac and only trying to put my 2cents in and help out. If I were you I would ask around the other forums maybe, since this seems more like, a system problem, from my standpoint. Good Luck! Span(;>

Memory allocation, to the best of my knowledge, is automatic on the PC (unlike the Mac). My best suggestion would be to go to http://www.adobe.com and see if you're problem is a known bug. The next place to go would be to Logitec and see if they have a known incompatibility with Photoshop. After that, try running Norton to check your computer for problems.

I went to Adobe (because I was curious) and they suggest removing the "detect cursor" plug in from the Adobe plug ins folder. Try that.

Thanks Caligula. I went all through Adobe and couldn't find anything and wrote in forums there also. But I must bee dumber than a rock, cause I have been all through my PS folders and can not find a detect cursor plug in. Is is possible it has another name. Thanks Bee

I can't find those files in adobe or my c drive anywhere. I wrote Adobe and they sent me an order form for help files. Sheesh. I appreciate your help buddyh. I am stupid or unlucky. Or both. ;-)

Hi Buddyh, I found theAdobePhotoshop5.5prefs.psp file and did as you said. I could not find the tour Photoshop.ini anywhere even in find files searching all ini files in computer or the PS cd. The cursor stayed the first time, but closing the program and then opening PS again it disappeared. Do not know what to do. If this has something to do with color management or monitor settings, I will never get it compatible. I have been through every possible setting I can think of to check. This is very frustrating. No there wasn't one of those either. I thought about the spelling. All I have is a photo55.ini , is that it?
