Subject: Anybody able to use the M3 Shorts?

rreynolds ( ) posted Mon, 06 October 2003 at 11:59 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 11:38 PM

I cannot get the M3 shorts to load. The installation works okay. The thumbnails show up (though there are also thumbnails for _M3 Shorts, that also don't work). The Obj is in Geometries and I can import that okay, so it's not a bad Obj. There's no Rsr after Poser 5 opens the file. Trying to open the shorts seems to open the shorts (no error message) and it shows up in the list of open ojects, but there's nothing there. I had the same problem with Poser 4, except that Poser 4 did create a Geometry Rsr, but the file still doesn't open in Poser 4. I tried copying the Rsr to Poser 5, but it didn't help. I tried this with a laptop and a desktop and it didn't make a difference. I'm left wondering if anybody got it to work. It's not a big deal because it was a freebie, but I'm curious why it won't load.

The first version of the shorts had no groups assigned, DAZ did an update but it is possible to fix the problem with UVMapper Classic: see reply 5 at the attached link. Poser 5 (and ProPack) neither create nor use Geometry RSR files, so your system is behaving correctly there.

I just tried it (since I hadn't used them yet) and they load fine. Are you loading M3 first? I loaded M3 then went to the figures library again, found the shorts (there should be three shorts showing: flame, lightening and skulls), clicked on the double check mark for "create a new figure" and then confomed them to figure 1 (M3). The shorts work with M3 Sr1, M3 (initial release) and M3 to M2.

Guess I must have gotten the newer version of the shorts :)

So where do you get the update? Just tried mine and they don't work. Thanks, Marque

Where do you find the shorts? Scarab

It was one of the weekly freebies, but has apparently not been archived. If you downloaded the one that doesn't work, I would guess you could email DAZ about it. If you didn't get the shorts at all, I'm not sure if you can get them or not. Try emailing DAZ.

The shorts were a freebie a couple weeks back and are no longer available. It doesn't look like they're in the store area, so I'm SOL on being able to find the update. Oh well, at they least they didn't cost anything.

Have you tried the fix? My version did work on download, so I don't have first hand experience but it should go something like this: Start UVMapper. File>Load model and select ..Poser xRuntimeGeometriesDAZ ClothingMilMan3M3Shorts.obj (make a copy of this file first) OK the info screen and No the Correct out of range UV coordinates message (if you get it - this is a guess, but you can always try it the other way round). Edit>Select>by Material. Click on the first thing in the list with lThigh in the name, then cmd/ctrl click on all the others. Edit>Assign>to group and type lThigh as the name. Edit>Select>None Repeat for the other body parts lButtock, rThigh, rButtock, Hip and Abdomen, selecting all the Materials with that body part name and saving them to the groups. File>Save If on Poser 4 delete the RSR in the GeometiresDAZ ClothingMilMan3 folder. Test. Anyone with the bad download want to give it a go and let us know how it comes out, and any steps I've missed?

It finally worked once I decided to exit Poser 5 and restart the program. Without doing that, it was still stuck in invisible mode.

The mesh seems to tear more at the separation between the hips and legs than a typical file would. I don't know if that's a limitation of the UVMapper or something I did wrong.
