Subject: What Is This?

Okay, so since I updated my GeForce II driver I can't use Open GL even if I use Eon's little cheat that I've used before. Now I'm stuck with stinky wire frame mode, but now I also have a strange artifact in the main camera window even with threading and Open gl turned off. It doesn't show up in renders, but is annoying. Does anyone know what it is or if I can get rid of it?

That would be your ground plane. Delete the ground plane and that little graphic will disappear.

You're right, it appears to be some sort of graphic representation of the ground plane. If I select the move tool and I change it's orientation to the camera, though if it is an infinite plane I don't understand why being able to move it would matter. Wouldn't moving the camera make more sense? If there is no terraine object in a scene is there really any ground at all.

A terrain object is different to a ground plane. Think of the ground plane as a sort of base line reference point. If you delete the ground plane and load or create a terrain object, depending on your camera viewpoint, the terrain might appear to be floating in mid air. The ground plane gives you nice simple geometry to avoid this.

Its just the xyz indicator - its been there since Vue 2

Yes, it is the XYZ centerpost orienter for the ground plane. Its a useful little device that allows you to orient every other object with respect to the coordinate system for the ground plane. Many of us use it, and all 3d packages have some such object.

Okay, thanks, I never saw it when I was able to use any of the 3D modes. So I guess my software is working okay like this, but I see a new video card in my future because I don't like working in wire frame. So if I were doing a space scene or just a cloud scape deleting the ground plane would be the way to go?
