I Have been rendering this Picture for the Cover contest and it has been rendering for Freaking 36 hours+ and here I thought I had over 5 hours left to go and....Freakin NO...The Fu%%in Deadline was at 12 freakin Noon...When did they change it from Midnight to NOON.... I never even thought they would change the Timelines....And I cant upload so folks can see because I am going to enter this in a FREAKIN Contest since I have spent over Two Freakin weeks on setting this scene up and rendering...

Wish I could....BUT....I spent alot of time on this so I am going to enter it in a contest whether it be here or on another site I will enter it...I agree it does suck i did take 2 weeks to set-up the scene I was even going to change it if I could have found a DEM of the Swiss Alps,But I didnt so I stayed with what I had and I came to really like the scene...When I find a contest to enter I will upload here so folks can see...A Majestic Mountain Winter scene with a Huge Forest surronding this Castle on a cliff/Bluff with eagles and a couple of my clouds...Thanks all...

I so know how you feel. When 3D Commune had their Weird Science contest, my image was STILL rendering at the deadline, so--just to enter--I turned in an inferior preview render. I wasn't too happy about it, let me tell you. It didn't even matter that the image was originally for a commission.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 05 October 2003 at 11:18 PM

A lot of the Mods changed deadlines from midnight to noon (or some other time), because there were some members didn't understand that for instance, "midnight of the 1st", meant one second after 11:59:59 on the night of the 1st. I would keep it, not post it, it's only October, there's time for another winter themed contest to pop up in the next 3 months. AS

They didn't change the day. I just used "the 1st" as a generic example. AS

Yes Folks I will post it when it is entered into a contest...I will have another Month or so to add more stuff I guess and the Postwork I will be able to do will be Tremendous...I cant spend all of my time on this for I still have www.aveara.com which is a special Myst/Riven Project that I am a part of so I will be working in between this Project and my own personal Project of Building a Level for The Unreal Tournament 2003-2004 Contest using Truespace6.6,G-max,Unreal Editor 2003-2004...Which I already have the band set-up my little Brothers old Band and my heavy Chunk sound will make for a great Audio experience and with my Graphics and Game Knowledge( I have been learning the Unreal editor inside and out,Next just need to learn scripting) this should be interesting...Well thanks folks I will post as soon as I can,I might even upload a different view shot of the scene...Would that nullify this Picture for future Contests?

electroglyph ( ) posted Mon, 06 October 2003 at 11:38 AM

I've sort of given up on the cover contest. You have to turn in a final render 2550 x 2984 pixels. It takes a week for Bryce to do that on a good machine with any premium render settings. Yes you could do the smaller size and then hope you could render a 300dpi cmyk tiff later but what if you can't finish in time to submit to Rosity? The covers are two months apart. Can't Renderosity announce the theme earlier and give more time? I recognized AgentSmiths tricycle, Gevidal's castles, and a lot of other models in other's works. Lot's of people are going into their hard drives and digging out pieces from prior works just because there is no time to set anything up from scratch in the allotted time. You just have to hope that the theme will involve something you already have or you're lost. I also consider Poser models to be setup prior to the contest. DAZ has spent years doing all the Vicky and Mike morphs. The skin textures and clothing you can buy also had several months of setup before they were sold. Without a little more time Poser folk will have a definite advantage and continue to have the lion's share of entries.

I'm totally with Electroglyph on that one, considering how long it takes to render, the time limit is excruciating. But I feel the same about Bryce Forum contests! Don't change the rules by all means, but I never can put together an idea or scene in one month's time. Not anyone's fault but my own...

AgentSmith ( ) posted Tue, 07 October 2003 at 6:37 AM

Foley, it might nulify your pic as being an entry.

electroglyph - Well, the tricycle I used in my cover contest entry is just from 3D Cafe, I could build my own, but it wouldn't look much different. Anyways, the picture was sort of an extension of another picture I had used the tricycle in; "October Rain".

Premium Settings - If I can't spot a difference between regular aa and premium aa in my render, I don't use it, no reason to. I just had a 3,000 pixel picture printed in Issue #7, no way was I going to use premium aa on that.

Besides, I had tried a premium aa render at around 800 pixels, no difference. I rarely use premium aa.

foleypro ( ) posted Tue, 07 October 2003 at 6:56 AM

I agree with AS...I never use AA because I cant spot the difference in my Natural scenes...Now in my close-ups there is just a tad bit difference but only a person who has the "eye" could see it....See the thing with all of this is because I am so teed off at myself for ASSUMING that The Mods would never think to change the Contest Deadline that was The same from the first Issue,See I could have stopped it from rendering at the huge size at any time before the deadline and I could have rendered it at 640x749@72dpi liked they wanted and then entered the contest...The only reason I noticed was 2 things seeing the Words Contest closed and then when I went to see Catlin_mc entry at 3:18 pm Pacific Standard Time(18 minutes past the deadline)But NO stupid ME started ASSUMING again that things never change...MY FAULT....

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Tue, 07 October 2003 at 12:39 PM

I think that's one of the (many) great things about having this forum, as a learning device. When I got my first copy of Bryce 5 I had NO IDEA what all the premium settings were for, in terms of effects AA and Rays-per-pixel. Thanks to the work and rendering time of a few dedicated Brycers, I now know what TIR does, and how to set the Ray Depth, and what True Ambience does, and Blurry reflections and on and on! And the only reason to use those settings is if the image calls for it... For example, those awesome renders that AS put up a long while back, showing how the RPP in Premium mode could bring out detail that might otherwise be missed, especially in pixel-level image textures. Great to know, and it's a good thing I don't often render things with that much detail! Sorry to hear that your project wasn't finished in time, but I'm sure it's an AWESOME image, Foleypro, and I hope to see it someday soon!

AgentSmith ( ) posted Tue, 07 October 2003 at 4:10 PM

Lol, it was the members here that taught me about that, I myself didn't even know what good more rpp would ever do, other than less grain in dof renders. AS
