Great bug...I think it's missing some chrome around the lights though... I thought this was the Product Showcase...

Dizzie THe thread had been originally posted in the Poser forum .. which is a nono. So I moved it :) The body proportion is bothering me .. but I've sent the image off to a VW mechanic so he can decide wether or not we want to use this model for his t-shirts. And he is a stickler for accuracy :P Any rate, right now this buggy is Cal look ..thats is to say all the decorative chrome has been stripped and the headlight housing painted bodycolour. I think there's a missing passenger side mirror, plus the rearview and windshield wipers .. but this is a WIP.

hmmmmm... actually, the body shape is more like a citroen 2CV - the roof rails and body shape without the fenders... is this a modified mesh?

Drezz,

You'll need to make a lot of modifications before you'll have a 1955 beetle. The body is way too long, almost like it's been stretched (http://www.autominiatures.com/V_Millionth.htm is a link to a side view of a 55 so you'll see what I mean). The roof rails, as spook pointed out, are much too pronounced & the sides are too flat.

Additionally, beetle rear windows were changed from the split version to an oval single piece in 1953 & then were changed again in 1957 to a larger version. the link above is to a picture of 55 model from the right rear 1/4 panel POV.

My apologies if this seems a bit harsh, or picky, but '55 bugs hold a special place for me. In my youth I used to do restorations &, along with a friend, spent 6 months doing a ground up rebuilt of a 1955 VW.

Drezz, I'm afraid that my client agrees with Cooler. Since he's been restoring VW's for over 18 years ..... I'm inclined to go with his opinions. Hope you keep working on this one though

Thanks for the input guys. I used a picture in a VW Trends Magazine I fiund, so Im sure it was a custom job. But Ill keep all that in mind as I look into improving on it.

fiund = found too much to drink I suppose ;)

I've gotten permission from my client to scan and give copies of original circa 1952 VW manuals. These have complete technical drawings in assembled and blowout versions. I'll post them to freestuff as modelers resources when they are scanned and ready.
