i need a manhatten terrain...or a full map of it without any text (names of buildings, etc.)

Would an aireal image work?? You can zoom-in and browse on this link to get down to 1 meter-per-pixel resolution and tile your own finished image: http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?t=1&s=13&x=364&y=2816&z=18&w=2

you could also try mapquest.com and look at the aerial view photos, some are wayyyyy outdated, but they are in grayscale which would work well for a terrain...
