Hello somehow it seems to be the best solution to export a Poser character as 3DS if you want to use it in Vue. After import all textures even trans maps are applied. But sometimes the character looses a bit smoothness and gets sharp edges on some parts. On the other hand an imported OBJ is perfectly smooth but without maps. This is very strange because Vue tells you when maps are missing so you have to copy them in the same directory as the OBJ. But after all maps as NOT applied with an OBJ. What can be done ? Any help would be great. My software is Poser 4 and Vue3.1

Try http://www.fallencity.net/tut-vue/vue-michael.php - that's a great tutorial on how to import OBJ-files from Poser to Vue.

you should try importing it as a pz3, you get small file, all imports of texture maps and no sharp edges. Sharen

But is that possible in Vue3.1 Sharen?....

No Vue 3 will not import pz3 files from Poser, but Vue 4 will. You might want to consider upgrading to Vue 4. When importing an obj file are you making sure all the textures are in the same folder in the directory, before you try to import it?

Has anyone considered using grouper 1.4. Save your poser model as wavefront obj and group all maps and textures with grouper. Then load the obj into vue. I have used this with Vue 4.12 but do not have Vue Pro yet. ;) This might solve the importing images from poser into vue. If anyone trys please post how it works for you. ;)

Vue 4 flips the V coordinates for textures of .obj files so this may be happening in Vue 3 as well. This may be the case if you're not getting any error msgs. with the import (i.e. if the texture files are with the .obj file). The result (in Vue4) is that the texture is applied, but upside down and reversed. Sometimes no texture is visible (depending on the map). One solution is to flip and mirror the texture(s) another solution is to load the .obj file into UVmapper(Pro) then save it (to a new file name) and in the Object Export Options dialog, check Flip Texture (UV) Coordinates Vertically and uncheck Export Normals and check Export Using Rotation Settings. The textures should appear correctly. maps

A supplementary explanation about "flip and mirror the texture". You don't need graphic editor nor UVmapper. Set "Picture scale Y" to -1.

Like pixpax said, this tuturial http://www.fallencity.net/tut-vue/vue-michael.php is the solution. I tried it and it works fine. No additional software needed. thanks a lot -Holli
