THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: whats the point?

Im not here to make any enemies but as a community forum, I think I should make my thoughts heard. I hate animated gif thumbnails. Please make them stop. I think putting "animation" in the name of the picture is a good enough way to tell someone that it is an animation. Maybe start an animation category. Im not poting this message here to piss people off. I find things I do annoying as well. I hate posting my pictures sometimes because I dont like to bump peoples pictures down. Just as I hate it when I post a picture and right afterwards someone posts three of his in a row. If I see a new picture, I wait awhile before posting mine. Im sorry if I sound like a jerk here, but I think alot of people share my views on the annoying thumbnails.

striving ( ) posted Fri, 10 October 2003 at 4:06 PM

I hear ya on the animated thumbs. Personally, I have turned off my Browsers animations. In IE you can stop that. It will only load the first frame. Much less distracting and speeds up your page load time. If you wonder how to do it in IE, go to tools, Internet Options.. Advanced, scroll down and under Multimedia you will see a box for "Play Animations" uncheck it! POOF! they are gone.. lol -Bruce

blah.. it's no big deal, you don't like animated gifs.. well just don't look at them. As an open community we should allow differents way of art expression.. If we stop animated gifs then what will be next?.. if someone don't like flowers should we stop to allow to post flowers pics? I don't think so. GC graphic is brand new way of art expression, lets be open minded.. it's a chance for us to be able to share our art without frontiers.. so please don't ask for starting building a wall.

I think it IS a big deal, when the damn thing is flashing like crazy. It's distracting and annoying as hell. But, I just turned off my animations yesterday so I no longer have to deal with it :-) Doug

Zhann ( ) posted Fri, 10 October 2003 at 7:00 PM

Don't like it either, soooooooooo complain about it to a MOD, enough people complain it will be taken down, squeaky wheel gets the oil type of thing....

I don't care mush either way. I used an animated gif for my freestuff thumbnails to better show how my objects work (smartpipe.) The file size is no larger than an ordinary thumbnail...so page load time should not be effected. Also it only has 4 frames and they move slow. I don't see how this is a problem.

Madmax, would you like to see a number of thumbnail pages of this? (see above) Totally distracting and a page of them, no way, this page had at least two obnoxious thumbnails.

Your smartpipe didn't even come close, it was done very well.

it's annoying but i can deal with it. I guess I have a skewed view as well since i soend about 15 mins/month in the gallery and about 20 hrs on the forum. So yeah don't worry bout me ;)

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 10 October 2003 at 10:28 PM

This subject has came up before here, I have passed along the suggestion of getting rid of animated thumbnails, to see what the admins think. Will make sure your opinions are heard. AgentSmith Mod

@ Striving,Thanks for the info Bruce! I find that some of those rapidly flashing gif animations can give me a headache. I immediately un-checked that box!

d_hood ( ) posted Fri, 10 October 2003 at 11:41 PM

I'm not talking about one animation. Madmax, I have downloaded and redownloaded your smartpipe. Thats not the problem. I could see one animation in the gallery, that would be ok. But I have seen like 5 on one page in Bryce alone and it is really distracting. I did what Striving suggested and turned off animations.

xceiverx ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 12:51 AM

Man whatever happen to being a MAN or women and going to the person to let them know what you think. I would have been happy to make sure the thumb was not and animation. But i see some of you like drama and have to try and change things because you dont like it, i guess we all should pay for what some of you dont like. I will no longer post ani thumbs i hate to see Adults cry. WHat a joke.

ocddoug ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 2:24 AM

Xceiverx, I don't think it was a personal attack against you. Quite a few people have been posting ani thumbs. Some people, myself included, are distracted by them. But I have them turned off now, so it's a non-issue for me. Doug

d_hood ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 2:52 AM

What would me telling you that the thumb was distracting do? Absolutely nothing. You've obviously knew that people were distracted by them because it's been brought up before. I fixed my browser and It's not an issue anymore. I looked at your work and it was an excellent animation.

danamo ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 3:16 AM

Xceiverx, I meant nothing personal with my comments. I think you're doing exceptional animation work.

Zhann ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 3:34 AM

xceiverx, I was not attacking you personally, yours was the most convenient flashing thum...I find your work to be excellent, it's just the thum was obnoxious... and I did IM another artist about their flashing thums and was just flipped off with the attitude, 'too bad'...so I, as well as others, posted here...

Nobody is attacking anyone, not without my express permission and or blessing. Text-based violence is idiocy at best. D_hood, if you don't like the animations, turn them off. If you have a Mac and can't turn them off, sell it and buy 5 PCs or a new car and a PC. There is no load time difference, 15Kb is 15 Kb regardless of what type of file the thumbnail is. D_hood, I honestly can't believe you are so childish about such simple things. Such as someone posting 3 pictures right after you post one. That's a very elitist way of thinking, this is not your site, it is a site for all of us. Nobody should care if their image is in the top-left hand spot, that's just ridiculous. I'll end my own idiotic post with some inane name-calling towards you, ya big Whinoceros! (grins, that was supposed to make you laugh, by the way)

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 7:35 AM

Well I did as Bruce said and clicked the off on playing animations and what do you know the one that Zhann posted above is still animating. Sheeeeeeesh, the joy of Windows. 8) Catlin

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 7:36 AM

Sorry, I just refreshed the page and it stopped...............yipeeeeeeeee 8D

xceiverx ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 9:11 AM

Yes d_hood believe it or not all you would have to do is tell me and i would have changed it.Im not the type of person that would have slamed you for telling me the thumbs drove you nuts.Im not here to distract or annoy anyone. Whats funny is i did not know this was and issue b4. The only reason i herd about this post was from people e-mailing telling me to keep my head high lmao. so i thought i better go check it out. Yes i was angry when i seen it and maybe i fliped off alitte, I was not screaming at any one person, I just wish someone had sent and e-mail telling me.im sorry that my thumbs where annoying to some. This should let you know if you have and issue with something i do or might have done just tell me, I dont bite. thats all i ask. And please dont tell me its not and issue with you d_hood if it were so we would not have your post. All you would have had to do is click the "red X" on your browser and it would have stoped the animation. Im just glad i know now. Peace Peace

d_hood ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 2:23 PM

After re-reading my message, I do think I am a whinoceros. I shouldn't complain about something that another person enjoys doing. Same as if someone complained about mine, I would get upset. Oh well...live and learn, I guess. Shadowdragonlord, you took what I said, "Such as someone posting 3 pictures right after you post one" out of context.

striving ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 3:28 PM

Just wanted to say something about the load time. It does make a diff with load time to have Ani's off, because it will also eliminate all the ad banners that are anis too (those can be bigger than thumbs). And on other sites around the WWW this can be a huge amount of bytes, specially on dial up.

madmax_br5 ( ) posted Sat, 11 October 2003 at 9:18 PM

You can turn them off in a mac just fine. It's all in the browser. IE allows me to tirn them off, and safari does not....yet

amethyss ( ) posted Sun, 12 October 2003 at 1:07 AM
