You could COPY MATERIAL and then PASTE MATERIAL onto your new object, all from the EDITdrop-down....

Open your original file that has your modified mat....select the piece that has the mat you want to save......click on the material option......click add...give it a name and description...check out of the material lab...... Open your new project that you want to use the mat in...select the object you want.....go to the mat lab....find your new mat.....click it.....waaaaalaaaa should work.
I've got a coupla hundred or so materials loaded, I took a page from AS, and made seperate 'category' sections (metals, building materials, etc), seems to work, and makes searching for the right mat my 2nd longest chore, next to rendering and anti-aliasing..;) Only weirdness I get is that the files are the same size, regardless of what's in them.

ok.... if someone can answer this in simple english..plz do! My head's befuddled.... is there anyway of saving a custom made material..ie.. I textured some object in bryce..choose a material..and tweaked it using the modify tool. Unfortuntely, I cannot..for the likes of me..remember which material I chose frm the library!! I need to replicate the same thing for another object in another file/image. HELP!!
