Subject: VuePro 4 Software Build Thread (to try to diagnose problems)?

Hey all,

It would be interesting (to me at least), about the Software Build you are running. I'm just trying to see if maybe E-OnSoftware burned a few batches of CD's using different builds. It might explain why some people are experiencing problems that others aren't.

My version (taken from the "about" menu item) is...
Version 4.50-02 (with Mover) Build 265689

JB

265689...no mover I've identified the following problems: 1. Repeatedly merging materials together in the Material summary causes Vue4 Pro to crash. 2. Welding of objects with large numbers of polygons or large numbers of sub-objects often fails, instead simply closing the object editor. 3. Render to screen sizes larger than the actual screen will abort if there are grouped items or polygon heavy items. 4. Scrolling a render window causes partial mouse lockup and inability to exit the window. 5. It seems Vue4 Pro doesn't like importing 3D objects when they are in folders that contain a lot of other files. It causes Vue4 Pro to crash and exit. It only happens if the model is texture mapped Example: I have a folder full of over 900 3DS flowers with their texture support files. If I try to import a texture mapped flower into Vue4 Pro from that directory, Vue crashes. However, if I create a sub-folder inside that folder, and move the flower and its textures into that sub-folder, it imports just fine. 6. In the Plant Editor, "refining" a plant (doubling the polygons) causes the plant to become partially unrenderable. doubling the polygons again causes the plant to be fully unrenderable. Cutting the polgons back to the original state makes the plant fully renderable again. -SMT

Thanks SMT & Esther for taking the time to post. Because Esther has build 265692, E-Onsoftware is obviously trying to get this thing fixed. I just wished E-Onsoftware would provide a link to the latest CD Build.

Here's what I've experienced:

  1. When using Mover to import P4 or P5 animations (using Poser 5), using any of the predefined path behaviors (i.e Pedestrian, Look Ahead, Standard...) results in strange behavior. When I create waypoints and reach the final Camera view screen- my model hops all over the path axis's. If I try to play with the settings- Vue Pro aborts. If I add more than a few waypoints- Vue Pro freezes.

  2. Using Landscapes and assigning material sometimes causes the Landscape to render with missing pixels.

I hope I'm not misusing this forum by posting this thread. I'd rather be typing threads about how to use the software rather than getting the software to work :)

Regards,
JB

Remember that there may be different build numbers depending upon whether you are running the Mac or Windows version. I'd suggest contacting E-On tech support about these issues since most of us have just received our copies and Vue Pro is just released. At this stage it's hard to determine if these are bugs, idiosyncrancies, user error, or system related. The more info that E-On has, the more they can do to resolve these issues. Looks like they have some work ahead of them...

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Humm, checked mine and it is 265693. Its for windows and has lots of problems with openGL and large files. The Doge city scape will load but not render - just reports its done. With all thse different builds it's difficult to compare things. We will have to wait till they get a stable build and make it available to all. Untill then we are comparing apples and oranges and maybe pineapples too.

265689...no mover I download the beta version that was up for awhile and VuePro got unstable so I reloaded the original version. I've had smallspace Problem # 4 - ALT-TABbing to another window clears the lock and I can proceed after that . . .

ggrace: Your problem is exactly this same thing that happens in my #3 listed above. Switch the render to "main view" and see if it renders... -SMT

Thanks SMT but it didn't work. That file has over 3000 objects and it will run in vue4 but it either dosn't load properly or won't render or crashes VuePro.
