Firstly, I am NOT fishing for comments - this is a genuine question which I'd appreciate your answer to either here or in IM (although I won't mind in the slightest if you decide to leave it as a comment, of course!). I've posted a pic at the link above, and there is some question over whether the figure in it is dressed or naked. I see it one way (not saying which!) and others are not certain. I was convinced that my way was the only way to see it, until I asked my husband, and he saw it the other way, so now I'm totally confused! Before you answer, please be aware that it is no longer my entry for this month's Poser challenge, 'cos a) by writing this I think I'm giving it unfair exposure (no pun intended) and b) I've grown to hate her facial expression! I'm just really interested in differing perceptions... so please tell me whether she's dressed or naked? p.s. beware- this may tell more about you than it does about the pic - LOL!

I'm going to go with clothed - her clothes just happen to be very similar to skin tone. You can tell that she's clothed (in my opinion) by the skin tone in her face. It just wouldn't mach up with the rest of her body, if indeed the rest of her body is nude. Anyways.....That's how I see her :)

Well, it's certainly masterful postwork irregardless :-) I had to look again after reading Nalif's commnet. The "top" has an clear linw where it is seperate from the body i.e. clothing but the color makes it difficult to discern. I think the way the necklace conveniently covers what would be the nipple area somehow adds to the ambiguity. The border on the lower part of the body looks more like a tattoo. It doesn't stand out like the upper border. To me, she's certainly nude from the waist down. If not, the darkening on the pubic area is really giving that impression. So, I see a flesh colored breastplate, a black kind of lace top that goes up to form a collar and a gap between the top and breastplate. Below the waist, nada but ink. And the cloak of course. So, I'd have to say more naked than not. Semi-nude usually seems to mean topless so I don't think that would apply. I agree with the point about the difference in color with the head/hands but you say that you used two different textures. Either none of the body texture is showing or it's really hard to distinguish from any clothing I might be missing. The lower body and the area between the breastplate and top looks like skin. So much for the rorschach part. If you're asking in terms of checking a nudity button or wondering if it might be considered too risque by some of the more conservative denizens of the web, no question, she's all nude all the time. Now please post it here with an explanatory legend and reveal your own thoughts.

I would say clothed.

I'm inclined to go with clothed as well, going by surface texture on the cloth areas and the highlights don't match the skin areas

nawtyangel ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 4:17 PM

Clothed, but might be because I have that secondskin outfit that I'm aware she is clothed. I really tried to switch perspectives and see her naked, but I couldn't. :( LOL Maybe because the outfit is actually textured onto the body, and the color of it creates the illusion of it being the body to some (just not me). shrugs

To be honest, I saw this earlier and it suggested unclothed to me, except for the shawl!

I see no way she looks naked, she is just wearing really tight clothing. Great image BTW

ok I looked at it and due to a shadow that is at a pointed area under her breast I would say clothed. if it was not for the shadow at that point near her waist I would of said naked and painted.

Deep-Trances ( ) posted Mon, 13 October 2003 at 10:29 PM

I have to go along with clothed as well. Just looks like she's wearing "really really tight tights..." (to quote BlackadderII) :-)

Darkginger ( ) posted Tue, 14 October 2003 at 12:44 AM

Thanks all - most illuminating! I see her as clothed, myself, my husband (he would!) as naked... I can just about manage to see the bottom half as naked, but it's a struggle, my natural perception is that she's clothed. I had no idea she could be seen any other way, so the ambiguity wasn't intentional - but I do think it's interesting!

Tintifax ( ) posted Tue, 14 October 2003 at 7:38 AM

Clothed, because of the bump on her breast, her missing private parts and of course the color. If that is her skin color, I would send her to the doctor ;)

lmckenzie ( ) posted Wed, 15 October 2003 at 2:17 AM

Interesting - I was half right asnyway. I was going to bet that your husband said naked. It would be nice to have a gender breakdown on the perceptions - are males more likely to see nudity?

Well, M/clothed here - but then I enjoy kicking statistics.

clothed. clearly. Unless she has fishscales for skin and no genitals. Almost androgynous. what's the fuss about?

lmckenzie ( ) posted Thu, 16 October 2003 at 12:24 AM

...fishscales for skin and no genitals"... Well, it is fantasy after all :-)
