Subject: I need a new copy of Windows Media Player.

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Mon, 20 October 2003 at 3:42 AM ยท edited Wed, 31 July 2024 at 3:07 PM

I am in England. I have a PC with Windows 98. I recently went into the fast internetaccess called BT Broadband. With it came automatically a new version of Windows Media Player. I have just found that that new version of Windows Media Player plays sounds as a crackling noise in the speakers and not as proper sound. It shows moving pictures OK. Sound plays correctly from my Irfan View movie player program and also when Windows makes the sound at a system event. Please where can I download a new copy of Windows Media Player? or do I have to buy it?

I have seen media player available to download on the internet. I can`t remember where, though. You could always try microsoft...

to Xantor :: what images have you made using them?

As my usual movie viewer, I am now using Irfan View.

Here's the download page at Microsoft for Media Player. Have you tried uninstalling the newer version? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?productID=&freetext=media+player&DisplayLang=en

If you're interested, you might also try a free, separately-developed movie viewer called Media Player Classic ... no association with Microsoft, other than a striking resemblance to the old Windows Media Player v6.4. The author updates the application regularly.

Be certain you download the 98/ME version, as there's a separate build for Win2K/XP.

The Newest media player is supposed to suck. I think version 5 is about the best, its only my personal opinion so I am not starting a debate about media player! Anthony I haven`t really done any images with your great free objects yet. When I do some I might put them here in the gallery :}

Since version 7, Windows Media Player has been a prime example of Microsoft bloatware.
