twisted_angel_9 ( ) posted Wed, 22 October 2003 at 2:12 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 6:53 AM

My store only has poser 5 and all my stuff is poser 4 like all the DAZ3d and marketplace stuff... will it all work the same? I'm FREAKING out!

All Poser 4 items will work in Poser 5.

SOME things from SAMS3D have been reported to behave strangely though. And some props may "balloon" when used. In the latter case, just un-check Smooth Polygons for the offending item. In general, everything P4 works fine in P5.

Also, some things don't render correctly in the Firefly renderer (particularly hair items). bonni

Yes, speaking of hair: Neftis' hair just won't render in P5 Firefly. It simply hangs the machine. For those of (Kozaburo's) hair that doesn't render correctly, there's a workaround including a slight displacement, but afaik there's no solution to Neftis' hair. Which is a shame, since the hair is so cool :o(

There is a workaround for Neftis' hair: http://www.poserpros.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=131151#131151

Ah I wasn't aware of that trick. Still it's a lotta hoops to jump thru just to use a hairpiece :o/ But then you can't claim that Neftis' hair is TOTALLY incompatible with P5, which is a good thing :o)

There are some scene props that have transparent panels that work beautifully in Poser 4 but not very well in Poser 5. It may have something to do with the Firefly Renderings but I don't know for sure...I'm a techno ninny. I haven't any problem with regular props once you uncheck Smooth Polygons (as described above). Most texture problems can be overcome by using displacement at a very low setting. I have a huge failure rate with Neftis hair...I'm afraid nearly all her hair hangs up my Poser 5 and I'm an UV mapper dropout. It's beautiful but the technique of using it is beyond me (but much is).

Kazaburo has a workaround for some of his hair on his page. Most hairs work fine in P5 though.

I had to re-doo the Bill Flemming Troll figure to work in Poser5. When you turned his head, the eyes freaked out. I had to open the joint editor and move the twist dial settings to fix it. So no, not all Poser4 figures work in Poser5 as is. I do believe though that they will work if you find the correct fix for it. BadCo

I don't know if you have Pro Pack or the Daz python plugin for P4 but be advised that not all python scripts that worked with P4 will work with P5. You will need to buy updated versions for P5 of certain scripts and The Tailor reportedly won't work properly with P5 either, but there is a fairly inexpensive update you can buy on Daz 3D that will allow you to use it with P5.

I believe that changing geometries like the changing fantasy suit don't work in Poser5, and the cross-talk that V3 clothing takes advantage of for morphing also isn't supported by Poser5

who3d ( ) posted Wed, 22 October 2003 at 3:28 PM

Then again, not all poser 4 products work with poser 4 (or poser 4 with pro pack) unaided or without error. Poser 5 does a "fair job" with Poser 4 products, and much better with a little knowledgeable assistance.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Wed, 22 October 2003 at 7:15 PM

And when you consider the literally tens of thousands of models out there, the fact that problems are limited to maybe a half-dozen makers or item types, and those have work-arounds... that's not bad. Carolly

Because of the afforementioned difficulties I intend to keep Poser 4 PP and P5 installed on my system for quite a while. That is, of course, unless Daz Studio wins me over completely in the future, but that remains to be seen.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 22 October 2003 at 11:51 PM

Changing geometry works fine in P5, or at least, it works fine with the products I've tried (including Anton's Spywear, the older P2/P3 figures, and my own creations).

" I believe that changing geometries like the changing fantasy suit don't work in Poser5, and the cross-talk that V3 clothing takes advantage of for morphing also isn't supported by Poser5" Like Little_Dragon already mentioned, changing geometrie works fine in P5. The cross-talk thingy between V3 and the morphing clothes is easy to work around: just morph your V3 the way you want, load the clothes, conform them. Now select V3-Body and go to Edit - copy, then select the clothes-Body and go to Edit - Paste. That's it, the clothes take all the morphsettings and fit your morphed V3 character perfectly.

Thanks Puntomaus, if that works for V3 perhaps it will work for Micheal and other figures. I'll have to try it.

also don't forget that the much cheaper "Poser Artist" IS Poser 4, just with a new name and box. So if u want Poser 4, think about "Artist".
