We have a lot of problems with people modifying someone else's work and uploading it here.

Do NOT upload other people's stuff, even if you've modified it, unless you have their permission.

We understand that you want to give back to the community, and if the original item was free, you're theoretically not hurting their profit. On the other hand, you are robbing the creators of their rights to control the usage of their creations. Also, some people create freebies as a stepping stone to creating commercial works. If you redistribute their items, you might weaken their name recognition and reputation.

I caught several violations tonight, some of which should have been caught much earlier. I apologize both to the original creator whose copyright was violated and to the people who uploaded the items who inadvertantly broke the copyright and had their bandwidth used before these were caught. The links have been removed here and requests were sent out to have them removed at the websites where the files are hosted at. (In our defense, most of the violations I found tonight were from months back, before we started screening free stuff, and most of the rest were in Pending.)

In the cases that I caught tonight, it looks like these were genuine misunderstandings - "free to use = free to re-distribute" mistakes. These were not done to cheat the creator in any way as far as I can tell.

If anyone has questions on what is okay and what is not okay for Free Stuff, please feel free to contact one of the Mods here. We'll be very glad to explain things more clearly. If you see any files that appear to be redistributions of other people's work, please let us know. We're trying very hard to screen out any violations, but we're not perfect.
