Subject: Help with Poser 5 for Mac OS X

aremis2000 ( ) posted Fri, 24 October 2003 at 8:46 AM · edited Wed, 08 January 2025 at 1:40 PM

Ok...I am not a rookie at this. I have been using Poser since version 3. Recently, I shelled out the cash to buy P5 for Mac OS X, since my new machine is a Mac, and it only has OS X on it, so my older version of P$ wont run on it (IT does not have the 'Classic' environment, since I dont own an OS 9.2 OS CD.) My problem --- Obver the time I ran Poser on my Windows Laptop. All my files have the .cr2 file, or .pz2 file ect, and the .rsr file. On Apple, the .rsr file is ignored as we all know. OS 9 has the MacConverter to put these files together, since withouth the .rsr. file, you will not see the preview in Poser. Is there a way to do this on OS X? Even if it means doing it manually? I checked the website out for MacConverter, but nothing on a new version. PLEASE --- Well over 2000 files to transfer...and not one of them has a thumbnail in Poser, and I really dont want to have to load the file and resave it each and every time. Thanks

Shouldn't need MacConvertor with Poser 5 Mac cause it does now read the extension (a'la PC) instead of using the data in the Mac resource fork. Best thing to do is move the whole PC runtime onto your Mac and use the "add new runtime" from the top popup from the Library Presets and then selecting the PC runtime. Then select the PC runtime folder thT appears there. All your stuff should be there, with the previews. I haven't tried this way but so far the 3 or 4 PC files I've loaded have worked just fine. There are also several posts on Poser 5 on the Mac forum here at Renderosity which may be of interest. Best; Dan

Wow! I didn't know about this. I've been using MacConverter in emulated OS 9 mode. I'll have to try it. Thanks!

AHHHHH!!!! I did not even notice the "Add New Runtime". I bought the downloable version from CL on Monday, and have spent a grand total of an hour playing with it so far. I will try your tip, and will check out the forum. Thanks for the assist.

Sounds like a good addition to the bug list - P5X can't display some P4 library
thumbnails when adding P4 runtime to P5X. This might be something that Martin C.
or Jim X. (who did "Thumbnailer") could fix - or maybe there's a script for it already
written by CL.

Unfortunately Poser5 on the Mac won't recognize the rsr files from the pc so you'll be left with the shrugging guy. The png's work fine though. One way would be to make png's on the pc with P3dO Explorer and a plug-in that converts rsr2png. It's from www.senosoft.com and free.

Wonderful. I will try that out. Thanks for the help.

Thanks Marianne, I should have mentioned that the previews only come up if the PC .rsr is from P4 ProPack or P5. Best; Dan

For anyone else following, Marianne hit the nail on the head (Huge kudos to a guardian angel in Marianne.) Not only does the software do exactly as she stated, its not like you have to do one at a time. It does a folder of files in one shot. Marianne...I send a huge hug your way. If ever there is anything I can do to help...just let me know.
