Can anyone help? Using Winzip8 - everywhere else I can save my zips - even Daz. But, here the damned thing just unzips them on its own. What is up??? and how can I fix it. I'm tired of having to rezip it all up to save.

Free Stuff, RMP, or both?

pizazz ( ) posted Sat, 25 October 2003 at 5:08 PM

I right click and save as everywhere else. THe downlod button on my account page will not right click.

Whoops, it's the buttons in freestuff too.

pizazz, hmm...errr...it's a "button" to a link, not a link itself. Try pressing the button (at least in freestuff).

I had the same problem too. It started suddenly only about a week ago only here at Renderosity, no place else. So I un-installed WINZIP from my C: drive temporarily. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem. Like I say- just started about a week ago- ONLY HERE- at Renderosity (Not any other website).

Just Use Stuff It, you wont have this problem ever again.

Ask me a question, and I'll give you an answer.

Actually I do use StuffIt on one of my other machines. Both softwares have their own aspects that I like, but Stuffit is good about opening a file in the same directory as the Zip, while you usually have to point Winzip to the place where you want it unzipped. I'll switch over to StuffIt for my Internet Surfing Machine and for Renderosity stuff. Still puzzled however why it suddenly started happening after having never seen it happen previously (?)

try checking your winzip options? it might be a setting you turned on accidentally

Veritas777 ( ) posted Sun, 26 October 2003 at 1:44 AM

Thats what I thought, too. But couldn't find anything like that in Winzip. I wonder if some kind of link got established between IE6 and Right-Clicking that caused Winzip to think I wanted to open the file (?) Still can't figure it out- so that's why I uninstalled it for now. I mainly liked using Winzip because I can check a ZIP file for being Valid, without actually opening it. It displays the contents completely- like an x-ray. You can even read the "read me's" without opening it. Well- I'll run Norton on my machine and see if something got put into the registry or something.

At least you can get as far as downloading a zip. For the last couple of weeks I have not been able to download freestuff at all from here. Haven't even dared try the MP. I get a screwy message as soon as I click on the download link.(error, no file was specified). Only happens here.

It sounds like you have the same problem that I occaisionally get. The stuff in you file associations may need to be reset.

Under Xp you need to:
1: open an explorer window.
2: On the menu go to Tools, Folder Options.
3: Under foler Options open file types
4: Open files types & go to .ZIP file types
5: Open Advanced and change settings to "confirm Open after download"

I've attached a screen shot of how mine is set up. If the confirm open is not check - whenever I download the file automaticly opens . . .

How in the heck did it get messed up anyway. But, I got it fixed with your info. THanks again.

gkruts ( ) posted Sun, 26 October 2003 at 12:39 PM

Hmm, I've been having the same problem, for about a week... and I KNOW I've never set it to open automatically... Guess I'll check it's settings, thanks for the advice, Thorn.

thorntoa ( ) posted Sun, 26 October 2003 at 12:47 PM

I think this condition is a "windows" glitche . . . I know when I had the problem I did not reset the setting . . .

I THINK SOME ADS on the web shoot a cookie to make that change so they can install sex dile up software on your computer desktop by forceing an automatic install with winzip.....
