What's going wrong with the egroups? Mine still work. Actually, the e-groups takeover of onelist.com (where i originally created my group) was the big disaster. Lost members, dupilcate mails by the hundreds, moderators accounts frozen for days. Havent noticed a glitch with the Yahoo thing. Maybe I'm the exception.
heyas, I got the same email too and went to the status page and it was dated July 18, so I figured they hadn't updated and I'd wait a bit before trying again. Then I come here and see the thread and notice hawkfyr has posted the URL. Off I go to check out the update about the Yahoo merger...and still I get the July 18 update with no mention of the merger or Yahoo. Am I getting stuck in a webpage warp or what?(an I have refereshed til my puter is all refreshed out :( ) If someone could give me the info if it is any different to what was in the email I would appreciate it. I have to say I'll be watching this merger thing with great interest. If they get to ad happy or start spam I for one will be seriously thinking about my webring membership. Yahoo/Geocities are poison to the nth degree to anything they touch as far as complicating things 50 time more than the original. Regards Eshal

Sorry bout that, I got the email also but hadnt gone there yet, but i looked closely at the bottom of the page and it says "Brought to you by WebRing Inc. and Yahoo! Inc. 1995-2000 WebRing Inc. All Rights Reserved" My site is already on Geocities, would this still effect me I wonder? Hawkfyr

I'm beginning to dislike Yahoo! They haven't screwed up my eGroup yet, but they pulled a fast one on me this weekend. They switched my privacy settings (without my consent) to turn on junk mail delivery. This morning, I've got "Yahoo! Delivers" spam from such fine places as Jiffy Lube. I changed my settings back. Well, Yahoo!, first one's free... I may end up moving my list to a private server, just to protect my group members from "Yahoo! Delivers".
heyas; all i know is now my egroups show messages by date by default. and if i want to change it, i can click on 'sort by date.' my 'sort by thread' option is totally removed. then there was the question of yahoo wanting to own the copyright to anything posted on their servers.... though i suppose the webring will be least affected (i can hope). since the individual sites are NOT on their servers, there's no way they can try to claim they need to copy any of your stuff. i mean.... they could TRY. ;) actually, i like my yahoo email. whenever i have to enter an email address online, i use that one. the auto anti spam works nicely, the bulk mail folder works nicely, the filters filter nicely. oh, and i love the 'block address' feature. :)
Heya all.. just a slight query and bitch.. :/ Begin bitch/rant Okaaaay I don't know if this has anything to do with the webring merger with yahoo but I just got the very first non solicted junk/spam mail to my addy. I have never ever gotten any at this particular mail site and today I get some dorky forwarded letter about some "sexy test". Neither me nor my email addy was listed on any of the forwarded letters so how the hell did it end up in my mailbox? The reference title to the letter is: =?iso-8859-1?q?Kylie=20Ha ....just so in case other ppl get strange emails. I know for one if that is the case I am going to blow my stack well and truly! End bitch/rant :) Regards Eshal

heyas; your email address ended up on a list. sorta like lists of addresses catalogue and junkmail companies used to sell for snail mail. you can actually end up on an emailing list simply by sending email, to anybody. some program between you and the recipient could nab it. mostly you end up on lists when you put your email through on some web site. you know 'put your email here so we can notify you if you win our 15 million dollar contest (and can send you our fifteen million ads)' kinda thing. though most have a 'privacy policy' that states they will not sell or use your email address in that way. those types usually don't give away money ;)
heya, me again :)I understand that much about emails..that's why I never give out my "home" one for that reason. This particular email I've used to house my 3d emails for over 3 years and nary a junk mail has hit it...now all of a sudden I get this one. Oh well guess my trash feature is actually going to be used from now on chuckles Regards Eshal

heyas; got an email about yahoo taking over the web ring... thing. i'm guessing it's related to the renderosity web torus, right? well, what evil villany can i expect to be visited upon me due to THIS change? :) (not sure i like this news :/ it's bad enough they took over and screwed up egroups...)
