Subject: Buyers Beware of e off

Purloinius ( ) posted Tue, 28 October 2003 at 1:27 PM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 1:44 AM

Hello this is to tell you that the imports from 3ds and poser 5 do not work in Vue. The shaders don't work, opacity maps don't work, and bump maps don't work. E-off doesn't want you know this. That is why the millenium dragon from daz is never seen in a close up on the eoff demo because the bumps don't work on the dragon. E off passes itself as great import and export program but it is not.

Purloinius ( ) posted Tue, 28 October 2003 at 1:37 PM

Don't forget the sale semantics this company has passed off to justify a 400 dollar upgrade for for a program that has the same materials as vue4. Vuepro is a marketing scheme with the artist in mind don't let them get a hold of you. Try more professional software. This company is trying to ride poser's success. The most frustrating thing is trying to get the opacity maps for the millenium dragon wings to look as good as they do in poser in vue4. It just doesn't work. A sad artist. Please don't delete this post. I am not a troll just a concerned consumer.

LOL Purloinius. I don't know what you try to tell us exactly. Sorry if it doesn't work for you. For me it works fine:-). Have a look at your machine. Maybe the problem is there (memory, power??, bad installation?) :-)

What happened to the other thread?

gebe ( ) posted Tue, 28 October 2003 at 2:38 PM

The other thread went in the trash!

Wyeri ( ) posted Tue, 28 October 2003 at 5:19 PM

Dont know why the last thread went in the trash but the Millenium Dragon looks better in Vue for me then in Poser 4 or 5 renderer. Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it wont work for everyone.

The Poser 5 import worked for me the first time I tried it...

Well, I don't have Poser5 myself, however I don't know what's the problem with the bump maps might be... I work with Poser4 and Vue 4.2 and (nearly) everything works like a charm! No problems with bump maps and the DAZ Millenium dragon looks fantastic. Just take a peek in my gallery, look at my dragon images and you'll know what I mean. If you have any question about the images and how they where done I'd be happy to help you out. Phil

I don't have problems with Poser imports (Poser 4.03, Vue 4.12 and Vue 4 Pro). I usually play with bump and highlight values.

Dj this is the best picture you have made with "e off"s software up to date. :-)

Purloinius ( ) posted Wed, 29 October 2003 at 12:01 PM

they deleted it. and that dragon looks terrible compared to the way it renders in poser 5. Notice how flat it is and the eyes. All I'm saying is this e-off ripped me off and tries to do it twice. They use subtle sale manipulation and the upgrade is far too high.

gebe ( ) posted Wed, 29 October 2003 at 12:09 PM

Purloinius, Vue 4 Pro was NOT an upgrade, but a sidegrde for Vue 4 users. There is a little difference:-). Vue 4 Pro is a stand alone program. E-on has never ripped off anybody. Contrary they are the most friendly and helpful people to us customers. And this since always. A friendly language to write to them in explaining point by point and in details your problems and you will get a friendly and clear answer. Guitta

Purloinius ( ) posted Wed, 29 October 2003 at 12:18 PM

That's not the case. Did you notice the wings are missing from that cheesy dragon? Thats because the opacity and bump maps work terrible in vue when u import from poser. Its so bad that curiouslabs doesn't want anything to do with this cheap bryce knock off. Thats why u need poser 4 to get poser 5 imports to work. The future is here animators don't let your imagination be hindered by time consuming buggy software. I promise you'll thank me later and so will your animating careers.

gebe ( ) posted Wed, 29 October 2003 at 12:25 PM

In Vue and also in Poser you can cut the wings of a dragon if you like:-). You don't need to have Poser 4 installed to make Poser 5 work in Vue:-). I think that CuriousLabs and e-on are working well together:-).

ummm...maybe DJ posed it that way ;)

grunthor ( ) posted Wed, 29 October 2003 at 2:04 PM

If you feel that way Purloinius perhaps you should be posting in the 3DS Max forum and getting on with your animating career. It seems to me you're in a bit of a creative rut right now. Maybe that will help you. Personally I come to this forum to learn how to use the two products Esprit and Vue 4 Pro. We have a wonderfully helpful community here which makes the experience fun. They have helped me out a number of times as they have with numerous others. They deserve a little respect! Your cheap shots and claims, many of which are flat out lies, are not appreciated and reflect poorly upon you and whatever your cause is.

I really don't understand what your problem is with the Mil Dragon and Vue 4. Works fine for me. :)

DMM ( ) posted Wed, 29 October 2003 at 5:01 PM

Tell you what why don't you just stop bleating and get on with the business of either using it or sending it back. The point has been made so your 'freedom of speech' is protected but now you're just moaning. My animating has just increased in quality thanks to Vue Pro thanks very much. I use Lightwave for most of what I do and now thanks to VP I can get excellent landscapes with vegetation perfectly matchmoved to my LW scenes. People use VP for many purposes and because you can't get your toy dragon working doesn't make it rubbish.

megalodon ( ) posted Wed, 29 October 2003 at 6:13 PM

Okay Purloinius.... you've made your point. Why do you feel the need to beat your own dead horse? Enough already. Now... why don't you go and try to learn the software and contact E-On with your SPECIFIC problems and work it out. Because of free speech, you can keep on beating that carcass - but you're really getting on my nerves and I'm just tired of "listening" to all of the whining. It would really be nice if you would act just a TAD professional and not sound like a child throwing a temper tantrum. If you spent as much time working with the software as you do whining about it you would probably be the resident expert. Megalodon

I agree with everyone above...this was a nice pleasant forum until you arrived...spend more time learning & less time bitching..... Sorry to all for being so blunt..it's a 1st for me, but I'm tired of checking in here & seeing his gripes in EVERY thread..... Geesh.........

Tintifax ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 2:22 AM

OK, I'm open minded, but it seems that you are the only one who have problems with the mil dragon. Why don't you show a render of it instead of complaining. Saying your opinion is OK, but it should be done in a constructive way.
