It really doesn't matter as long as it works. I make alot of my models in Rhino and Amapi and export in obj format so I can uv map in UV Mapper Pro. I have also downloaded native Bryce models using Bryce textures. If it works for the scene, then use it. I prefer to explode my meshes before exporting them out of Rhino because this gives individual surfaces which makes texturing easier, sometimes when using Bryce textures on mulitsurfaces you end up with one side that refuses to texture properly. The downside is on a complicated model you have hundreds of surfaces to map and texture.
I have over two thousands of free 3D objects from Internet and some bought at Poser World =Poser props transfered to Obj, 3DS, Bryce OBP and Lightwave LWO. The files are on CDs and I have an Excel database for all of them. Why creating objects that you can have free. Or that you can modify with a freeware 3D software for your own use.
I perfer .obj format as well, for the uv mapping and ease of import. I usually do my models in Amapi then export as .3ds and .obj. Only thing I modeled in Bryce used terrains so they had to be exported as .obps....this woouldn't be a prelude to releasing a freebie would it..;)

I have..be right back..;) 11,204 items (haven't broken it down by objects, but probably about 8,000 or so..;) I prefer solid objects..though I've downloaded .obj's, .obp's, .3ds's, .dxf's., .lwo's..you know the drill..;) Bryce can convert a bunch of these, and also .cob's (I understand..where's that #$% manual..hate moving..;) Most of mine are made in .3ds, a few .dxf's, and an .obj or so (hafta get around to learning to UVMap..;) As long as it renders and takes a good texture or 2, I'm happy.

ok, so it looks like obj and 3ds are the most popular file types.... but what about the model itself... lets say for example i made a window.. or a mail box.. would you prefer that to be made in a model program, or out of primitives and booleans in bryce? heh and yes, it could be a prelude to some free stuff or MP stuff...lol

Ok, so when You all get models from the market place or free stuff...how do You prefer them? Made in Bryce with meshes and primitives, or made in another program as one solid mesh, or perhaps two joined? Been looking around, and it seems most models available now are in 3ds format, not made in bryce, but an actual modelling software... so whatcha think? Models made in Bryce? or Models made in another program? thankssssssssssssssssssssssss Jen
