Subject: Searching for Ancient plug-ins for RayDream 3

BountifulKnight ( ) posted Thu, 30 October 2003 at 11:37 PM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 4:12 AM

I am running OS X on a Mac and the only version of RayDream I have that will run in classic is version 3.0.4 for which I once had plug-ins that would export 3DS and OBJ formats. They were free, but I have searched the net and can't find them anywhere. Does anyone still have them or know where I can find them? I especially am looking for the 3DS one. I don't have the money to buy any new software packages right now, so I have to use what I have. Alternately, if anyone knows a good (free) way to convert DXF to 3DS on a Mac, that would solve the problem for me. Thanks, George (BountifulKnight)

I know there are still on the Internet, I saw them last week. Do a search with Google or buy the last issue (october) of Digit Magazine with the free Carrara Studio v1,1 (full with help and documentation in PDF format). Load your RDS file in Carrara Studio and export it to 3DS or OBJ. That way, you'll have an upgrade to RayDream and it is free.

Very cool mikeberg! That doesn't help me today, but I have ordered the October issue and will look forward to getting Carrara Studio v1.1. In the meantime, if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them.

You might check here for the obj importer. There are also fixes for newer versions of RDS to run under os9.

Thanks willf, I have those and they do make it so I can run RDStudio5 on my other OS9 cpu, but It won't work for Classic in OS X. THe obj import/export works, but not with the polygon detail of DXF.
